Wow. Can't wait to see this project get started. You seem to know exactly what you want to do. Best of luck with it.

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

Cheers! Big Grin Absolutely know what I want - it's what I'm doing that I have no clue about  I haven't ever attempted a conversion and not one quite so monstrous... I really don't claim to know my stuff with this it's all blind flying from here on in :O

Recapping (for myself as I can't remember anything for any length of time):

Steering Rack - Corolla E12 Unit - £50/£100

1UZ-FE - VVTi 300BHP unit with all ancillaries and ECU etc. - £1000

Gearbox - W58 - £300

Differential - Celica ST205 - £200

Prop - Custom Built - £300

Exhaust - Custom Built £600

1UZ-FE to W58 Conversion kit - £750

This is all not mentioning the respray.... which will be about £4000

This has just fallen through - the owner decided to keep it. Sad I'll try to find another.

And just as I thought all was lost... the original seller comes back with it at the price of £250!!!

First off... what a cracking bargain! The engine is so smooth and pulls incredibly hard with no knocks, bangs, taps or squeals even when pushing that 8000RPM limit which of course we did. Then when you think about the 161000 mileage you can't help but think Toyota knew what they were doing when they built these.

The Gearbox is totally sound, she changes up and down nicely with no grinding noises, so that's all good.

The Clutch will need replacing in the next few thousand miles though, the Bearing whines a little when you hold the pedal down in gear but not excessively, but it seems to be making good contact and it picks up well.

The Brakes have a worrying vibration though, although she still brakes hard and reliably, I would be looking into it more if I was planning on keeping the same brakes. They will be getting replaced with K-Sport Stoppers so it isn't an issue.

Everything else mechanically is totally sound, honestly she drove so well I couldn't believe it was all mine for just £250!

As for the body... she has had a re-spray not 4 years ago, however it was pretty duff, there are polishing marks all over her and both rear arches are coming out to be replaced properly. The owner was very honest about everything by the way, so there were no real surprises bar one which I will get to later.

The Sunroof is a little rusty but easily salvageable.

The Rear arches need replacing.

The Tailgate is getting swapped out for my spare as is the bonnet... the tailgate is way too far gone and the bonnet is just worse than the spare I have. However I will likely fix the one on the car.

The rest of the exterior is fine as far as I can tell, I will only know the full extent of the damage when I strip her right down but that is way off.

Now we get to the interior... it's shabby but it's all getting chucked anyway - happy days, but the worrying bit is the O/S Rear Turret... most of it doesn't exist. I will get you a picture of the gaping hole when I start work, it is pretty brutal. Again, I will be fitting a cage and this will be rectified at the same time. Smile

So here are the pictures! Meet the Caracal or Cari for short:

My stripped out rear seats:

The drive back was excellent, the noise, the power and the handling were all spot on. This is THE perfect base for this project!

Looks like fun Smile I have a few questions though...

1. Why the W58? The vvti 1UZ kicks out a fair bit more torque than the previous versions, are you concerned about the strength of the gearbox at all? Personally I have my eye on a late Soarer R154.

2. The ST205 diff is an interesting choice... I know very little about them! What made you pick that one? Are you planning on using the entire Celica rear subframe? I presume they're not the godawful viscous diff like in the MR2...

3. I still don't think 3S-GTE flywheels are a good idea on the 1UZ but if you DO use one, get a chromaloy lightened one like the Fidanza - DON'T redrill a stock one because they are cast iron and it doesn't like being drilled.

4. Is the propshaft company you've found that place in Luton that did Sam B's? If not could you gimmie some details? Wink

Nice to see more people starting to appreciate the 1Uzfe, as said before the W58 gearbox wont hold a huge amount of power so try and find an R154 if you can, these are 2 sites that I have got loads of info from about the engine and gearboxes
http://www.lextreme.com
http://www.v-eight.com

Seems like getting a flywheel and clutch from a Toyota Hilux is an easier option it's just finding a company that do one that will hold the power :-)

good luck look forward to seeing your progress
