After having a top notch gearbox built several months ago, I took a trip to the Nurburgring (work related) but decided to go in the Subaru and clock up a few more laps and see how the car compares against when I was last there in 2009.

The difference is black and white. Unfortunately, the same old issues reared their ugly head and bit me in the ****.
The first few laps were wet so i merely went out to re-familiarize myself with the course. 4th lap was a dry lap so I engaged low boost and went for a spin - all good in the hood.
5th lap was not so fortunate. Half way around, the gearbox failed on me AGAIN! That's the 3rd gearbox this year. With no 2nd or 3rd gear (although you could clearly hear them rattling around in the bottom of the gearbox) I was forced to limp it home to England. 15 hours of driving... Sad

Good news is that now I've managed to get my self a 6 speed conversion kit, capable of handling around twice the power without fear of failure.

Watch this space for the fitment.

I've hit a bit of a snag recently.
The 6 speed box has been installed and went in perfectly without a hitch - I didn't even have to 'massage' the transmission tunnel to get it to go in. The diff went in without issue as well but the rear drive shafts are turning out to be a real nightmare.
According to the gearbox code and the information I'd sourced from Subaru themselves, the rear shafts should have gone straight in but they don't match my hubs at all.
Further more, the CV joints cannot be transferred to alternate drive shafts allowing me to mix and match. I have 2 options at this point:
1: Have the drive shafts custom altered so that they have the a six speed CV at one end and a 5 speed CV at the other costing circa £500+ vat.
2: Buy the 6 speed rear hubs, bearings, hand brake shoes, discs, calipers and brake pads costing circa £1,200+ vat.
Whilst the custom drive shaft option is a lot cheaper, it'll be difficult to know if the hybrid shafts will be strong enough...

decisions, decisions....

I remember you from the WIM days chap. lol - like you said, best not go there...
Right now it's merely a case of me gathering the money for the new hybrid drive-shafts. I've since discovered that new shafts will be more than capable of handling the future power mods.

Just got back from work and had a good old read of this. Fantastic build you've got, and well done on doing so much of it yourself!
