Sparkystav thats where the bypass fits?

Gold star for Stav!

That is indeed where the bypass pipe usually goes on the supercharger setup. It normally looks like this:

Now, this is where Janspeed have worked some magic, I've found out that they blanked off the hole on the driver side of the intercooler pipe and modified the bypass pipework by lengthening it and running it along the base of the radiator and connecting it to the intercooler pipe on the passenger side of the engine, directly below the BOV valve.

By doing this they reduced the intake temperature at the throttle body by 16 degrees and when paired with a high flow cat and exhaust system the car was reading 238bhp on the dyno!

Ooh now that's an interesting twist if you can get that extra bit of power from that mod throw in a bigger pully aftermarket ecu bigger injectors and voila you could be looking at a nice increase in power

I can't figure out why at would help, as when you're on full throttle the bypass is closed and everything goes through the charger, and intercooler to the engine so changing it shouldn't do anything but give the air off throttle a less restrictive path.

I'm thinking in my very limited experience and knowledge of supercharging is that it provides a better, denser airflow to the throttle body. If you think of the standard setup when the throttle closes it traps the already boosted air in the intercooler pipework and it has to be fed forward by the air fed from the bypass pipe which has to travel unboosted through the intercooler which I'd imagine limits the airflow and due to this increases the intake temp. The next time the throttle body opens the very next gulp of air it takes is at a much reduced velocity and a lot warmer.

On the modified setup the bypass is more or less providing a cold air feed pipe direct to the throttle body, just before the BOV. When the throttle closes the BOV blows off the trapped boosted air creating a vacuum and it is filled with fresh cold unrestricted air direct from the bypass pipe so when the throttle opens up again the next gulp of air the engine gets is colder and at a greater force and density reducing the intake temp and the increased airflow in turn increases horsepower.

That's my take on it! :whistling:

but that will only help when opening the throttle not at the top end where the power is measured?

I'm with Stav on this one...unless there is some vital bit of information we're missing, the benefit of the colder air at the TB will last maybe a couple if seconds until more air is pulled through the pipework?

I can't say for definite myself as I really don't know nor claim to know but I do know that the bypass modification and BOV was dyno'd by Janspeed and it found that it created an extra 10bhp on it's own and reduced the intake temp by 16 degrees.

The rest of the power increase came from the hi-flow cat they were commissioned to develop for TTE and the exhaust system.
