HID not working
HID not working
It's only rear fog lamps that are tested in the MoT. Remember that a lot of cars don't have any front fogs at all, so they're classed as optional lamps and are not tested.
A sidelight just needs to be a white lamp, so LED strips should be fine for that.
I guess this is another question for Ormi as it a little confusing.
If you have got it, then it must work was my understanding. It is the same as a spare tyre, you dont have to have one, but if you do then it must be legal.
However i do agree that the front fogs do not show on the below link.

Other thing is if the lamp glass is broken then this is a failure.
Best thing is to phone the MOT station and ask the question.
Quote:Any additional position lamps are optional and are not included in the inspection.
Quote:Other thing is if the lamp glass is broken then this is a failure. For the mandatory lamps, yes, for front fog lamps, no.
They're optional lamps so are covered by :

Good stuff, hopefully I'll be able to clarify later today whether the front fogs are included or not based on whether they tell me I need to replace it or not!
Was being followed by an 08 plate Audi Q7 this morning with only one working HID, also remember that both my brother's HIDs failed when the car was 2 years old so he had no headlights for a while - on that basis I've done pretty well with mine
parthiban Cool, I'll check out the link Dan mentioned if he can find it, otherwise might go with them then. How do you mean wouldn't go down to 4300K again? Do you mean just in terms of colour? If so, that's exactly what I want, it's getting a bit chavvy to have the bluer lights, so just want it to look OEM (plus technically I'd have more light on the road which is no bad thing)Yeah I mean colour temp. I agree I probably wouldn't go for 8000k, probably 6000k. I keep visualizing 4300k as the nasty OEM yellow, but like you say it's not.

Purvesh Yeah I mean colour temp. I agree I probably wouldn't go for 8000k, probably 6000k. I keep visualizing 4300k as the nasty OEM yellow, but like you say it's not.Yep 4300K is the most white to be honest, 6000K is white but very slightly blue, and then 8000K is much bluer.
You should be ok with the fog, as the same happened to me. The whole foglight was corroded at the back. There was no way the bulb was coming out. So I replaced both of them for the new Satin version and smeared plenty of grease on the back. They have a new cover on the back to stop the salt getting to it. Hope yours haven't corroded though!
ps We going fishing today?
Lexusboy My sister-in-law had a Audi A8 and her head light went the dealer only had one techi who could change it and there £500 each, sounds crazy. The BMW ones were more than that actually, luckily it was a warranty job as otherwise that would not have been a nice bill!

4300K is typically what colour temp OEM HIDs are, so they're not yellow at all. Also bear in mind that 4300K will be slightly brighter than 6000K, and a lot brighter than 8000K.
