Losing rear end grip
Losing rear end grip
I now have Toyo T1, put these on after the set that came with the wheels (KUMHO) got worn on the inside fronts due to Geo, got the Geo set-up, and put on the toyo's, this was in the spring, so they were fine at this time of year and into the summer. They were cheap at £70 per tyre fitted, but was told they were a good tyre for all weathers and since i dont drive like a maniac they would do me fine. and they have, until it's now wet all the time.
There certinally was no issue over the winter / wet months last year when running the Kumho's (even with the geo out!!!) didn't go for them again as i figured they were just cheapies to make the deal i got on the wheels affordable, wishing now i had just got them again.
Been reading reviews on the Toyo's, some swear by them, some dont, as usual, opinions differ greatly, but i cannot put this problem down to anything else.
I still have the Lex 17's up the loft with good tyres, so they will go back on for the winter now, and keep the replacement wheels for spring / summer again, this way i wont have the expense of changing 4 tyres with like new tread.

That's them Stevie, I know that you are lowered & have ARB's, where i dont, but that mods are noticed at higher speeds / hard cornering right?
as far as tyre contact on wet roads at lower speeds, i would have thought you may have seen the same as i am seeing?
or am i getting this wrong aswell???
Are they definitely T1-R and not T1-S ? Because £70 sounds like a very good price for them ! The T1-R is supposed to be very good in the wet, and I've certainly not noticed any problem.
Yep T1-R,
There is a hate club for these tyres on the lancer register,

pretty funny reading, from a few years ago, i know these boys are on another level of driving & they have one of the best handling cars there is, but alot have went from the S to the R and wished they hadn't, maybe i should have hunted for them!!!!
To put it into perspective, some of them seem to be recommending the R888. But that is a road-legal slick, in effect, a track tyre that you can also use on the road (which I am guessing will not be too good in the wet !). So I think they're talking about extremely hard driving !
I don't have any complaints with my T1-Rs so far. Running on Chicanes, so I'm using the 225/40 tyres. I see you have 18" wheels too.
Sorry Parthiban, for barging in on your thread, but i am in the same boat as you, nothing noticably wrong with my car, but now have this rear handling issue, but i will see how the 17's get on when fitted, see if it makes a difference
