Bandit The housing ok then mate, was looking forward to seeing it back together and looking good :thumbup1:

Yeah it looks spot on!! Going to do some little bits and bobs tonight and then it's off to all be put on the car tomorrow. I did notice a chunk missing out of the compressor housing, where the big circlip attaches it to the turbo cartridge. It was definitely missing before I gave you the housing, so don't worry about that. It doesn't look like it's meant to be missing (the edges aren't even) but I don't remember smacking it with anything and I can't find any other photos of CT20b turbos in pieces.

You can see the missing chunk here, on the inside of the large outer circle near the top right:

I don't see it affecting the turbo at all, that lip is where the circlip fits inside, and there won't ever be any more than turbo pressure on it in the lip's direction unless someone is hanging off the compressor housing

Parts are now at the garage! Stuff dropped off:

1 Water Bypass Hose #5 (referred to as the hose from hell, it feeds the stock oil cooler, you have to take the manifold off to get to it and it fails on older cars boiling all your coolant out in a matter of minutes)
1 rebuilt turbo, c/w new gaskets for oil feed, water feed, and turbo -> downpipe as well as 7 new studs and 7 new (single-use!!) nuts
1 coated stock manifold, c/w new gaskets for head -> manifold and manifold -> turbo as well as 8 new studs and nuts for the head, and 4 new studs and nuts (again all single use! Stigging Toyota!!) for manifold -> turbo
1 coated downpipe w/Blitz cast decat pipe, c/w new studs and gasket for O2 sensor (not single use for a change but 1 got bent in transit and it all looked a bit manky)
1 Gizzmo phenolic insulating gasket for the intake manifold
4 cleaned and balanced 540cc fuel injectors w/new o rings and insulators

Have advised that I need the car back by the 11th as that's when the MOT expires. Watch this space...

Well, it looks like my engine was quite sick after all Sad Luke put the car back together today and it wouldn't start. A compression test revealed 6BAR-6BAR-6BAR-3BAR (normal cylinder pressures on the 3S-GTE are 12BAR) so something's not right. Head off for investigation and difficult decisions tomorrow.

Gutted!

If it was ok before you took it in, and the garage has fitted a load of new stuff, surely they've messed something up and it's down to them to put right ?

Basically, yes. While it was sick, it was certainly driveable before. There are issues on both sides:

I stripped the turbo and manifold off outside, and taped up the exhaust ports, oil and water feeds with electrical tape, covered the throttlebody with a rubber glove, and laid a coat over the entire engine (my engine lid has no rain tray anymore so the water doesn't drain away from the engine).

Then the car sat around outside for far longer than anticipated in damp weather. This could've led to the tape coming off, the coat soaking through, etc.

2 months later the car was brought inside and stripped a bit more, including having the inlet manifold off etc. It was put back together a few days afterwards and you get to where we are today.

The head needs to come off for investigation before fingers start getting pointed.

Hopefully it is something relatively easily sorted, like the head gasket gone.

Fingers crossed for you, keep us posted.
