Coolant was low, spot on mate. Engine Management Light has vanished.
Today I made a start on clearing out some of the Amps and things I don't want. Also found an issue with the earth from the battery so I will buy a new connector and re-earth this when I get chance.
Also, picked up a geniune rev5 spoiler last nigh for £50, absolute steal. Paul Hinson used it in the MR2 championship, it needs some minor repair and then spraying.
Bootlid and Engine lid also replaced just to tidy a few things up. Once I get it on the road I'll get some updated pics up!
MOT passed. Needed a rear wheel bearing and that's it, no other advisories. We are now on the road! Just need the weather to improve so I can started on a few bits.. first job is get the stereo working.
Heres the rev5 spoiler, absolute bargain. All repaired, just needs spraying which I may attempt myself.
good news on the MOT mate,
will need the spoiler on to comment on it lol
There's a photo earlier in the thread of a cari blue '2 with the rev5 spoiler on, because I had one but sold it before fitting.
Which side was the rear bearing, it had the front driver's side replaced already this year! It's expensive to do it with a proper Toyota wheel bearing kit (I think £70, consists of bearing, circlip and oil seal) and then having a garage fit it (an hours work, so £90 or so) unless you have a press? Or you could do what I did and borrow a rear hub off a mate until you can afford to get the bearing replaced. I did that for a few months until it went to WIM when it had the bearing and alignment done at the same time.
Or there are eBay bearing kits for half Toyota money, I've no idea of the quality of them though.
WRT the stereo, there are 2 odd speaker cables in the frunk. I think 1 is purple and one is flat silver braid. Those run to the speaker outputs on the HU. So for an easy life, you can just take the speaker wires that ran to the blue soundstream amp, and connect them to those and it will work. Obviously if you want to do the job properly then you'll need to pull the speaker wires back through into the cabin and do away with the purple and silver wires.
The wires go through behind the instrument cluster, through a grommet just above the bracket for the clutch pedal. I did the wiring with the dash out so I don't know how easy it will be to get to!
Hey Toxo,
£190 for the rear wheel bearing including labour. It's ****** cold so I got the garage to do it. I didn't fancy it in this weather. All done now, MOT'd and taxed.
Was trading through the manual for the stereo the other night, I've never had so many features!
I've removed the amps and stuff from the frunk so will be hooking the stereo up to the standard speakers (subs removed aswell, for now anyway).
So the standard speaker wires all go through to the frunk? I've not had time to have a proper look yet, will do it after Xmas.
Getting the xbrace chromed aswell, ready for tarting up the engine bay.
They're not standard speakers
The stock Toyota speaker wires are not used. They're not connected to anything in the door, so you won't be able to just wire up the stock wires in the ISO adaptor behind the head unit. You will have to pull the wires through from the frunk that went to the blue amp and connect them to the head unit, in place of the purple and silver wires that are there at the moment.
Fortunately for you, the head unit just about has a big enough amp in it to drive the door speakers standalone!
Agh I hadn't realised you had changed the door speakers aswell. I should have known it wouldn't be that straight forward. Still, should be fairly simple.
I decided I didn't need such a hefty setup. I'm sure there'll be some dilemma when I come to sort it out.
The Radio stopped receiving signal before I had touched it so not quite sure what's happened there. All fun & games .
When it came over from Japland it had a blown set of Alpine components in it so I didn't have much choice
Aerial cable should be straightforward, it's totally separate from everything else. It's literally just a 5m piece of coax with an aerial plug on the stereo end and an aerial socket on the boot end. It can slip off the end of the aerial in the boot, undo the carpet around the extra fusebox and look in the rear 1/4. I have used the aerial cable in the past for pulling other cables through there so it might've been loose.
