The parts are in reality a lot blacker than they look here - the flash has made them look a bit grey/brown.
The downpipe is a complicated shape and required quite a bit of masking:

Manifold - I originally asked them to cut the heatshield off this and weld it back on afterwards, until they politely pointed out that the heatshield would benefit from ceramic coating too, so that got done as part of the process. It protects the stock oil cooler from the heat of the manifold:

Only downside is that I left the studs for the lambda sensor in the downpipe and they have got bent in transit. No big deal though, only a couple of quid to replace them and they came out quite easily!
Got my exhaust parts back from Zircotec today - they have been really good, I got phonecalls from them throughout the process and have turned the parts around in 7 days (5 working days) where they originally quoted 10 working days. :thumbup:

I'm not sure for a number of reasons. It should lower intake temps and make the turbo spool faster and earlier, making it more responsive. But as every gasket I removed was blown as was the intake mani gasket I think both the MAP sensor and the lambda sensor will have been misreading so it will be impossible to tell what improvements have come from the ceramic coating process.

I'd ordered a v-band clamp to bling up the turbo a bit more. However it was the wrong size for the turbo as v-bands are measured by pipe size NOT clamp size (who knew!). Here's the original turbo clamp and the v-band:

So the v-band is now in the For Sale section :lol:
I noticed while I was comparing clamps that the standard one has a tapered edge on the inside:

So I figured as the clamp is pretty tough I could use it to pull the 2 halves of the turbo back together simply by putting it on and doing it up!! I don't have a before picture but this is the joint after I'd done the clamp up and then removed it again

And job's a goodun. Finished item, with actuator reattached.

I did think about replacing the actuator but the only people who make a replacement (uprated / adjustable) part are Forge and I've heard mixed reviews about their actuators so I decided to just leave it as it is.
The plan moving ahead now is basically dependent on payday! On Friday I will take the turbo, exhaust parts, injectors, and my bag of Toyota bits, stop off at Toyota on my way through to pick up the remaining parts they have for me and then drop everything off at Pacific Works. I'm in 2 minds about whether to replace the clamp on the turbo or not now. I can see why it would have to be very strong as it's only the exhaust housing that is physically bolted to the exhaust and the cartridge and compressor housing together weigh a fair bit, so the clamp has to take weight strain, which v-bands aren't designed to do. It would delay the plan even more as well, as I would have to order it on Friday and wait for delivery before I could drop the parts off.
Right, reassembled the turbo today in my lunchbreak. I had been struggling to get the exhaust housing back onto the cartridge as it is an interference fit. So you need something big and heavy to get it back together properly. It has a locating pin in it so you can't get it on the wrong way around, but I could only get it about halfway on before I hit problems. I didn't have a vice big enough to put the entire turbo in (and that would stress the relatively weak compressor housing) and clamps and my workbench really weren't cutting it. I even tried using a rubber mallet tapping around the exhaust housing gently but that resulted in it going on unevenly and there was a risk of bending the shaft or damaging the compressor wheel.

Don't know if it's been pointed out elsewhere, but I just found out that these guys are in SPC Horsham's old building, for what it's worth.
They didn't go there in the end because they never got back to me with a price!! They all use the same ASNU kit to do cleaning anyway so it doesn't really make too much difference who you use.
