Feeding a wire from stereo to windscreen vent?
Feeding a wire from stereo to windscreen vent?
Hi guys,
I'm planning on using my iPhone 4 as a satnav since my TomTom unit has been a POS since day one.
My plan is to buy a window suction kit for the iPhone so that it picks up the best GPS signal possible and then hook it up to my GROM unit, so that i can get the nav instructions through the stereo along with my music
I want the install to look as clean as possible, so I think the best route for the iPhone cable would be to come through the windscreen vents. My question is: is there a direct route from the back of the center console (headunit area) to the windscreen vents without any drilling or pulling apart the entire dash?
I would guess it's simpler to run the cable out of the side of the dash than through the actual vent but I don't know a lot about these things so will leave it to someone who does
I find the voice guidance so annoying, I turn the volume down and just use the map direction for guidance, just like a map
Why dont you feed the wire through the dash try at the top of the dash. I fed the power cable through the gap for my camera detector and its a perfect position.
I'll take a pic of mine mate and show you. Basically, just feed the cable through the edge of the tray where the tray meets the rest of the dash. No need to make holes in the tray or dash either, just squeeze the cable through the gap.
jimxms Hmm...I pulled my dash tray apart the other day and couldn't find any way to feed able through. I've got one of the pop-up dash trays btw.
