I have seen a few threads on a start button recently, but I did not want to hijack it as I am looking for a much simpler option.

I would like to remove the cigar lighter and socket and use the hole for a start button. Something like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220733215504 I am happy to have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to get the ignition lights on. Then press the button to start the car. Unfortunately I would not have a clue what to do to make this work. If I were to buy one of the generic buttons from eBay, took some pictures of the kit and wires, could someone then explain where to wire it in.

Or has someone already done this that can give me a walkthrough?

Read his threads and drop him a pm with any question's

there is a simpler way but it does involve making a circuit then buying the button etc etc

IMHO the generic 2nd gen Start buttons look the nicest so its worth saving up for that they go for around £80 on ebay

I do have 2 of these in the workshop from exploratory kits that i was making....

now onto the circuit how good is your circuit board building ?

if its great and you know your zener diodes form your normal diodes and all other manners of components including logic chips then you could build it yourself....

have a read of my thread i Have made my own and then fitted a micro processor controlled circuit wit tach learning capabilities

Presumably for a simpler (but not quite as cool) life you could just wire the start switch from the back of the ignition barrel through a non latching start button (like the S2000 one)?

Yeah loads of the MR2 guys have the S2k start switch fitted because it's more or less the same size as the *** lighter (which has a small removeable facia around it on the MR2, makes customisation easier).

Thanks for everyone's replies. Although I have just registered, I have been around here for ages.

Rabster, I do not know anything about circuit boards. I have read you thread on the test setups you are doing. If you were able to supply a kit that was an idiot proof “plug and play” kit (well as close as it could be), that had proximity and start button, I’d have one. I know how to cut a wire and use connector block and electrical tape. Other than that, electrics are not really my bag.

If you do a kit without the proximity, then I’d happily buy that. I have to agree that the 2nd gen start button does look better.
