DaveEdin Thinking of selling up John?

Yes, it has been my plan for a while to shift it on during this summer. It's in the best state it's ever been in, reliable and making good power. And the money I get from it can go towards my V8 project :thumbup1:

Anyhow, I fitted my SPAL fan controller today. Lots and lots of wiring later my fans are now only on when they are needed, and it ramps the power up and down depending how hot the coolant is. I've wired it up to the fan warning light in the dash, which will now be on when the first fan is running and be flashing when the temperature has got high enough to warrant the second one kicking in. Clever stuff!

Yeah it is. Samples data straight from the stock water temp sensor (THW pin on ECU) and uses PWM to directly control the speed of 1 DC brushless fan. You program it with low (10% speed) and high (100% speed) points, and then it just varies the speed of the fan dependant on the voltage of the sensor. It can ground an output when its reached 100% to turn on a relay for a second fan (which is my intention but I haven't wired the fan up yet). That plus it's got outputs for the warning LED and an override switch to run both fans flat out.

Shame I got bummed by customs for it because SPAL UK refused to sell me one!

Does sound good and has got me thinking!

im not sure what controls the fans on mine, normal ecu or the LINK will have to investigate cause i bet the LINK can do something similar and the IS has electric fans already.

Probably just a thermo switch in the radiator that turns 1 of the 2 fans on, then an override when you engage the aircon that runs both fans flat out. I doubt the ECU is involved at all?

The most you'd be able to do with the link ECU will be a similar setup to what my car does with its fuel pump. There's a 2 way relay with a resistor (with a dirty great heatsink on it) which can switch to either output 9v or 12v. You could run the fan through that. The problem you'll have is that the link won't have any highly rated outputs that it could vary the current on. The SPAL controller is good for up to 30A! The link will just be able to either switch output signals to either high or low, it won't be able to cope with a load like a big DC fan will require.

Maybe be good to attach to the ECU though, give some sense to it all

Did my rivet nuts today to repair the mounts for the front arms. See http://www.outlawjapclub.co.uk/forum/sho...stcount=12 for the pics!

Booked in at WIM next weekend and then the bodyshop the week after that. Then it's Le Mans time!
