toxo Dunno if 2bar do unichips but Ryan is based in this area.

Emailed Ryan earlier, his reply was basically...They don't do piggybacks for the IS200, and said tbh he would go full standalone or leave it as it is. And said unless you've already done lots of other performance mods the standalone would be pointless anyway.

So I'm just going to leave it untill I've got a few other bits done because at the moment any sort of chip would be pretty ineffective anyway.

I keep thinking I should buy it just because it's so cheap! But then I'm thinking that money could be going towards the mods I need first aaaahhhhhh.

So to clarify.... Mark @ TDI tried to sell you a Unichip, telling you all the great things it would do. A handful of members warn about his advice. Then an expert is said chips says they don't make one for your car and if they did it would be pointless?

Essentially a remap makes sure all the other mods are working together optimally, so the more modified the engine, the more benefit you will get, and also see the biggest gains are always on boosted cars. Also, technically, you should remap after any major upgrade to ensure the optimal performance.

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

I still think what Mark said was correct, as the UniChip does work, and it can perform the function of a CamCon so should get good results. Ryan at 2bar never said it wouldn't work, just that they don't do piggybacks for the IS200.

And yes I agree with your second point about the remap being more effective the more mods you have.

So would it be safe to use the chip in its current state on any other IS200 then? For example, I buy it an use it with its current map untill I get a few other mods and then get a proper map after?

I just don't wanna do anything that will screw up my engine.

Well my car just had an induction kit and a blueflame exhaust fitted for the map thats on it .

but I cant say this would be good enough for your car or not . I'm not going to be responsible for saying yes or no

Question is, does the IS200 ECU undo any changes that a piggyback makes?

I know that with the IS300 you need to reset the ECU every few weeks if you are running a piggy back, because the ECU looks at the fuel trims and notices that they aren't what it considers to be normal so makes adjustments that effectively undo the tune on the piggy.

That's an interesting one, I'd heard that was the reason you can't remap the stock ecu, as it just teaches itself the old settings. Not really thought about it with piggybacks though, hmmm.
