My planned sound system upgrade
My planned sound system upgrade
Alright guys, after quite some time finding all the bits just about within my budget (well a few quid over actually but I certainly can't spend any more) this is what I've come up with:
I've already ordered the pioneer AVH-4400BT as it's perfect for what I want it to do. The bypass loom, facia and ipod lead are all sorted too and I've already got a sub and separate amp coming out of my previous car.
My concerns are for the front and rear speakers set up:
6.5" Speakers for the front: £19.99

6.5" 18mm Spacers -
6x9s for the back £38.27

6x9 18mm Spacers -

4 channel amp £67.99

My concerns are these:
Will this amp make a worthwhile sound quality difference? Or is it not worth it considering the head unit I've got to run the speakers from?
Also are 18mm spacers too much or just right on either set?
Thank you in advance for anyone who can give me solid advice on what I've got planned!
Firstly save yourself the cash and make the speakers yourself, its pretty easy to do as you just draw round the standard ones.
Do you mean the spacers by any chance sparky?
I tried making spacers for 6x9s years ago to mount them on an old mini parcel shelf, it really didn't turn out well so not looking to do that again, would rather spend the £15 to save a hell of a lot of stress.
I expect he meant spacers. It was rather late at night!
They are very easy to make, however also inexpensive to buy. They should work ok. Though when I last did an IS200 stereo I didn't use any spacers. The fronts just screwed in to the stock speaker mounts (stock speakers where destroyed in order to remove them mind) and the rears just dropped into the holes (which meant removing the boot mechanic and replacing it with a gas strut!)
Hi Stoneym and yeah it was. Made me chuckle though I've read quite a bit about replacing with a gas strut but it's an expense I'd rather do without.
What do you think about that particular amp with the speakers guys? Is it going to be worth the £70 and all the time spent fitting it?
I think you will have to fit an after market amp anyway, the original 6x9's are biwired with different ohm ratings for each section of the speaker.
I didn't realize that, I thought the bypass loom would have been the straight forward solution to not needing to amp them.
Am I right in assuming the bypass loom is useful only if I keep stock speakers?
The head unit has a sub pre out and front and rear pre outs as well
if your not planning on refitting the standard front speakers anytime soon you could use the surround for them thats what i did to fit my front speakers.
and for my 6x9s i cut some MDF for the spacers and used the standard speaker as a template fairly easy
