Hi all,

How easy is it to change the gearbox oil on the is200, and what would people suggest is a good choice of oil to use.

May even make a walkthru and post in the help section.

Also how much oil do I need for the gearbox

Thanks

Pat

Manual or Auto?

Manual 'box shouldn't ever need changing.

Most manual boxes under normal operation conditions don't need oil changes. You won't find a service manual saying to service a manual box by changing the oil, almost regardless of manufacturer.

Take a look through your service schedule.

As I have always bought second hand cars its something I've always done along with everything else just to be 100% happy that the car is in good working order.

Would a change do any harm to the gearbox as at some point it will be coming off for the exedy clutch to be fitted

It won't harm it, do it when the 'box is off.

Its Autos you have to be careful off, if there is damage in the box maybe due to a lack of service/fluid changes wrong fluid, wrong method of changing etc, a fluid change can in fact cause more damage and ultimately failure.

Autos are OK if you and previous owners followed the maintenance instructions.
