Is200 and is300 differences
Just wondering what would be best I love manuals but then I want to do a 1jz conversion one day which would more than likely be an auto as there easier to find but I've heard that the is300 is a turbo away from being a full supra engine so no need to change the engine just turbo it if you get what I mean lol but are the auto boxes any good or would I get bored and long for a manual box as I've always had them and prefer them but just means less power and having an is200, really don't know price wise there not much different insurance isn't much different either anyone got experience of both

Right a few of you may know I'm going to be selling my mr2 soon and plan to get a Lexus been looking around and found a few good ones only wanted a manual is200 but started looking at is300's now even though they only come in auto form

Th engine is basically the same as a Supra n/a, so bullet proof reliability and the auto box does have the buttons for manual shifting if you want.
3rd option is get an RS200 Altezza and turbo that - easy 280 BHP. The interior can be swapped from an IS200 for peanuts if you want the IS200 interior.

At least it has some go in it whilst your waiting to turbo it, or supercharge it - there are lots of kits for sale to do this but all in the USA. It will never be the same as a true 2JZGTE but pretty darn close for everyday driving.

I really do like the idea of putting it into drive and just cruising just hate how autos sound but with the manual buttons does it behave just like a manual just no clutch pedal bit hard to explain what I mean think I'm gonna try find one close to test drive

20-05-2019, 09:36 AM #4The IS300 auto gearbox in my dad's old IS300 was honestly the closest thing to being a manual, it'd respond the way YOU wanted it to. If you were on full throttle, in drive, it'd redline if you wanted it to (did for us on PWR mode anyway?) The gear shifts are so precise that at cruising speeds, they're unnoticeable. The whole drive is like driving an auto with seamless gear shifts, but put it into manual mode and you could have it the way you wanted to, with no clutch pedal obviously...

20-05-2019, 09:54 AM #6No worries mate glad to be of assistance! One tip though! Make sure you go for one that isn't damaged or has any problems? Our old one had an O2 sensor go, and little bits and bobs bodywork wise which weren't the best... So make sure you don't make impulsive decisions, stick around and find a good one!

20-05-2019, 01:17 PM #10Not sure, I'll have to dig out the e-mail from Thor. I was advised by them to use the IS300 rear subframe as a whole if I put a v8 in, as it would allow me to use the supra diff.
