Hi all,
I already asked about these on the end of another thread I'd started, But as the other one was about brakes (And I can't see any other threads with questions about these things) I thought I really should ask again in a separate thread.....

Anyway, The question is,
Has anyone got experience of the two main models of (Cheap) new stainless cat back exhausts on Ebay?

The ones I keep seeing are the one with a round can that needs a boss welding in for the lambada sensor (Though for some reasion the example listing I've added doesnt mention this?!?), and the one that looks like an OEM style stainless cat back system.

I'm wondering how well they fit, If the quality's excessively bad (ie, do the welds look like they'll hold together for more than a week?) and if either make the car sound unpleasantly like a f4rt in an echo chamber?

I'm not expecting big name quality, But I've spent way too long in the past with an angle grinder and a welder just to get cheap exhaust systems to fit and I don't want to do it again.

Also, My car's a "Sport" with the factory (Aero pack?) rear lip spoiler. I'm sure one of the Ebay shops selling the one with the round can used to say that it couldn't be fitted to car's with this, But now I can't find any of them making reference to this. Anyone got a definitive answer?

Thanks in advance for any info that you all can provide.

Scotty, the first is a carbon copy of the Japspeed they seem pretty good and look tidy however for that much why not buy direct from Japspeed as there Cat Back system is only £299.

And they sound amazing well I like mine anyway  these both should fit under the rear lip of the sports kit and if not a little bend to the bars should help.

The second one I can't say I've heard seen or touched so can't comment

The reason for looking at these rather than a genuine Japspeed system is that these usually get listed on Ebay as an auction and the final sale price is often under 180 notes. I reckon a 120 quid saving would be enough incentive for me to put up with having to get a boss for the lambda sensor welded in.

Only problem is that I think the removable "Bung" in the tail pipe looks bl00dy awfull, But I don't know if running the system without it would have every copper's ears twitching for 5 miles around wherever I go.

Scott I run this system mate there is a youtube vid in my build thread how how it sounds minus the centre pipe as even the Japspeed has to be welded up.

There not stupidly loud but have a great burble as you come of the revs and makes the str 6 sound amazing,

I didn't even put the bung in my car its still in my garage on the shelf where its gonna stay,

If you make a saving I wouldn't worry to much on little things, there copied straight from the Japspeed so should match 100%

Trust me it will sound great and look stunning

I found the You Tube clip !
I have to say that it's a hell of a lot quieter than I thought it would be !!!

It also makes me wonder what's going on when even a name brand exhaust manufacturer expects the customer to invalidate their warranty by having to modify the system before it's even fitted. Is there any configuration where the IS200 doesn't have an exhaust sensor fitted?

you can use an o2 simulator, that would save chopping the hole for the o2 sensor

I've had a little prod about on tinternet, and from what I can tell the "post cat" lambda sensor is only there to tell the ECU that the cat has actually done what it's meant to with the exhaust gas.

If all it does is tell the ECU that the cat's working I think it wouldn't be the end of the world to live without it, But I'm still in 2 minds what route I'd prefer to take. On one hand is refitting an expensive component that can fail occasionally. On the other is modifying the wiring loom to add a device that I know little about.

So, I've got a handful of extra questions.
If I decide to fit a simulator, Where would I get hold of one in the UK? All the sites I've found that sell them seem to be in the USA. Also, Where would you fit one? Is it a case of cutting the Lambda's plug off and mounting it somewhere under the car, do you cut into the loom in the engine bay somewhere, Or do you splice it in near the ECU? Some of these look like they have to be setup to give the ECU the signals it's expecting. Is this as simple as twiddling pots till the dashboard warning light goes out, Or do I need to know what I'm doing?

If on the other hand I go for the weld in boss route, I'm assuming that it's going to be the (semi) standard 18x1.5 thread, But is there a certain depth that it should be mounted to (ie, Would the sensor work the same if it was in a 10mm thick boss as it would in a 30mm thick boss?). What I suppose I'm asking is does the tip of the sensor need to protrude into the flow of exhaust gasses and if so, By how much?

These may sound like stupid questions to some of you, But you have to remember that I come from a car history where "High tech" was drilling carb jets to get a non standard size and changing the ignition advance by swapping in different distributer bob weight springs. My first car with injection had the Bosch "K Jetronic" system (which was about 99% mechanical), I felt quite at home with this as if it didn't work properly it was a "Strip it down, squirt it all with carb cleaner and look for worn out parts" job to get it all happy again. Even when dealing with the limited amount of electrickery on my MX5 I felt like I was treading water.............. So, If any answers could consist of short, friendly sounding words (And pretty pictures?) it would be very much appreciated.

Well firstly Stav is someone to talk to with regard to sims send him a PM about it,

Secondly all I did was buy a thread on Ebay for about £4 will try and find it in my ebay history and send you the link it works fine and have had it on for a while now so no complaints so far.

Both routes are good ways to go it was just easier for me to fit the thread then go the sim option,

Hope that helps
