so as you guys are all getting alot of snow iand seem to need advice i will start a little thread on it for you.

first thing alot of people ask me is it ok just to put 2 winter tyres on the drive wheels.
the answer is no. think if you put 2 on the drive wheels and the go to turn and have no grip what so ever on the other wheels your just going to crash into something.
winter wheels have 2 marks on them. the first is m+s and you should never go by this as this is for the usa and means nothing but mud and snow....
the mark you want is the triangle mark with a snowflake insidehttp://www.wheelandtiredepot.com/snowflakesymbol.htm

next it's how much and whats best.

well there are a few things to thing about. the best winter tyres are going to be the best. they test them up here to find out how good they are at stopping and ice and snow use.

so are cheap winterr tyres bad..... no they just wont be so soft or will not have the best stopping time or grip but most of you driving on summer tyres will notice the difference.

so can i drive like normal with winter tyres on. the answer is yes but remember that stopping distance will still be longer and grip will still be reduced if you compare to a warm dry road in the summer and good tyres on.

smaller the better

yes the smaller( wide) your tyres are the better they will sink into the snow to help grip the road. wide tyres tend to float on the snow were there is no grip.

good winter tyres will look a bit like this with lots of ribs in the rubber to help grip
[Image: 986317_b_4d8b4c4ba63e1d72.jpg]

so if your going out to shop some winter tyres have a look at them. feel how soft the rubber is. it should move with pressing your thumb on it and if you try to wipe your hand over the tread then you will feel it grip your hand.

anything i missed just ask.
