I joined the MX5OC on a drive Sunday across the Suffolk Country Roads, and its the best day of driving i've ever had! The car performed extremely well and even had the company of my mapper Lawrence in the convoy in his boosted MX5!

I've got a couple of videos from the drive, but due to the length/size of the videos they take forever to upload Sad Here are some photos from the day. The rest of the photos can be found on my Photography page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=...756&type=1

My MX5 was a 1.8 so I didn't look too heavily at turboing 1.6's, But I seem to remember that early Mk1 MX5's had a pre drilled/tapped oil take off machined into the block that were plugged with a bolt (Some sort of design throw back to the "B6T" and "BPT" turbo engines).

It's been a few years since I've even thought about anything MX5 related, So I can't say for certain where this blanked off oil take off could be (Strange feeling that it's somewhere below the rear exhaust port) or what year would be the cut off point between an engine having this or not.

I know that a lot of people just added an oil filter relocation kit when they turboed them because it gave them an easy way to cut into the oil supply, AND it stopped oil filter changes being such a bi*ch of a job, But this option did lead to quite a long oil feed pipe.

Reman.

Air filter by K+N, Exhaust by Japspeed, Brakes by Mintex......... And a scuffed rear arch by my sister. Huh

I've just wondered if there would be a high enough flow rate from the hole the oil pressure sensor screws into? I don't know how feasible it would be, But could a "T" adapter go into there to allow the sender to still screw in, and also flow enough oil to the turbo?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Could go propper hard core and fit a separate oil system. Smile

Something like a 200SX diff cooler setup might work, And it would mean that he could run a litre of nice turbo friendly oil in a closed system that's separate from the engines mineral oil and any of the microscopic alloy and cast iron particles that would be floating about in it close to service time. It would also mean not having to shell out 40 or 50 notes for a full 5 or 6 litres of decent synthetic stuff every oil change as it would only need the litre or so in the expensive oil in it's own little header tank changing (And the usual high quality mineral oil in the engined sump).

The electric pump could be setup with a timer to keep the turbos oil flowing for a couple of minutes after the engines shut off too.

It's just an idea that kept popping into my head back in my MX5 days, But I can't see why it wouldn't work.
