toxo I was thinking about this the other day... I reckon that's the only mild steel bit of the exhaust (except maybe for the pipes that connect directly to the silencer) and it's been welded up a few times. It was a bit flaky when I got the flexi replaced last time!

Glad to hear it's still going well Smile

It does let the exhaust down a bit :whistling: I'll clean it up and see what can be done with it.

Soooo I've had my first problem with the car, albeit minor. The passenger brake calliper decided to start sticking - I think it was always sticking ever so slightly since I had the car sat for 6 months after purchasing, however it started to get worse recently.

After a short drive (10 - 15 minutes) I checked the disc temps with an Infra red thermometer which showed 3 of the discs at 50°C and the 4th and 200°C. :blushing:

I removed the calliper and it appeared that the slider was the cause of the problems. The bushing on the slider pin had perished.

£4 for this..

After cleaning the pin, replacing the bushing and lubing up with Lithium Grease it all went back together.. only to find that after 30 minutes the pin seized up again? I can only assume the bushing was swelling slightly when used with Lithium Grease rather than the Toyota recommended slider pin lube. After removing the bushing and trying once more the pin was sliding correctly.

From what I gather the bushing is mainly for noise reduction, leaving this off seems to cause no problems.

The brake pad had completely warn so I replaced both front pads at the same time.

After bleeding all round the car feels muuuuch better than before. The who car just feels free

I wish I had time to clean and paint the callipers but that will have to wait for another day (when I've decided on a colour).

Off to Cheltenham this weekend so maybe a chance to get a few pics (although I shamelessly have not cleaned the car in a while!)

I guess I should also mentioned I've serviced the car since my last visit to this forum too. Spark plugs, dizzy cap, rotor, oil, filter, etc. I need to do the fuel filter at some point but that will have to wait for now.

I was pleased to find that I could simply move the charge cooler out of the way so that I can get to the plugs..

On another note I am contemplating storing the car over the winter months and going for a much more sensible winter car... an RX8:thumbup:

I think I'm yet to grasp the idea of a sensible car :whistling:

Good work with the brakes mate. Toyota/Lexus seem to have problems with them!

Yeah there not great are they. But the same can be said for most cars.

I've spend the summer months fitting a new kitchen and doing things around the house so I am still yet to do anything that I've intended to do MR2.. one day.. one day..

Long time since I've got around to this with concentrating on the house recently..

To keep the thread up to date

- New alternator April/May 2013 due to an intermittent fault (caused me to break down for the first time in my life)

- MOT fail Dec 2013 due to callipers sticking, both fronts replaced for 7,000 mile old since refurb and then flew through the MOT.

Nothing much more to report, the car has treated me well. I hope I get some time this summer to sort some minor cosmetic defects and niggles out.

98k miles, nearly at the magic 100,000 Smile

Time for another update.

Sorted the indicator stalk disengaging to early. The nylon pin behind the wheel had worn over time, simply stretching the spring was enough to resolve the problem.

On to the yearly service when the most annoying think happened! Tightening the sump bolt and before it seemed to get tight it had sheared off - ****! I swore a lot at this point.

I couldn't get the bolt out so in the end I took the sump off. I'm not sure what Toxo had used to seal the sump previously but it took some getting off Smile

Once the sump was off I could just about get at the bolt to remove it. I looked a mess at this stage although it cleaned up okay:

Eventually the longest service ever was complete. Oil, filter, HT leads, king lead, dizzy cap and rotor arm.

At some point I need to sort out:

- Slight leak in the boot
- Annoying rattle from a loose heat shield
- Front & Rear bumper could do with a respray

You would have to ask Matt at Rogue, he was the last person to have the sump off! I would guess it's just standard Toyota RTV sealant though
