Need to sort a laptop for my sis, is it still best to go for Sony? Have had good experiences with Sony laptops in the past, they've always been solidly built with quality components. However I am also tempted by the HP one with the touchscreen, will that be just as good or is it just a bit of a gimmick?

I don't mind if people want to start talking about macs, but the machine does need to be running windows so would need to satisfy firstly that the mac running windows has a significant improvement over a PC running windows, and also that it is worth the additional cost of having to buy windows on top........

All advice much appreciated Smile

HP have had lots of issues over the last few years both of my sons have had problems with there.
HP only changed them when they were told that one of my son's is a journalist.

I had a Sony and have to say it was a good machine but lacked the extra's of machine in the same bracket.

Question is do you want quality or value?
I bought Acer this time and it is better value but really does not feel as strong as the Sony.

Cheers for that, I've had Acer too and the build isn't quite up to scratch, if you're not really careful with it bits seem to start falling off!

Haven't considered Samsung actually, are they decent machines? Not thought about the budget much, was going to look at what's available and set it accordingly - maybe £7-800ish?

I've got an HP6720s and never had any issues with it. Had it since ermm..november 2007 I think so quite a while and its been used very heavily and also been strained converting movies. My gf has got a Acer Aspire One and for a little thing its actually quite good. Had the motherboard go on it recently but got it repaired under warranty and couldnt fault them at all. It got picked up, repaired and sent back all within a week and it came back looking like new.

just a quick note tho..if u are looking at HP laptops then go for the business spec systems as they're much better.
