Marsdendean Prices are stupid IMO.

For the same size wheels but not as wide, i have to pay around £20 more

That's business unfortunately, nothing to do with manufacturing costs, it's all about demand and the IS tyre size clearly isn't in as much demand as the evo ones......

Tyre price is one reason we sold the Boxter - £250 each on the back and £230 each on the front the backs wear out on 6 to 10K so every year you need to replace them.........

Did the rears on the boxster just go so quick from wheelspinning or was it uneven wear? Only reason I ask is that we had to replace the rears on our Merc after about 12-13k because the middle of the tyre was worn completely. Wondered if it was an overinflation issue but Tony said it's not unusual for very wide tyres to wear like that (the rears are 9.5")

Yep........plus Evo owners go through tyres much faster then Lexus owners. When Top Gear reviewed the FQ-400 they said the tyres lasted 4000 miles :o

No not abusive driving, it was the wife's car so was driven fairly gently. They use a very soft compound (N2) thats where the phenomenal grip came from, the trade off was fast tyre wear. BUT FUN, better drive than a 911!!

Very fast Evos use Porsche rubbe - therefore fast wear.

Tonight was the first time I really grabbed the Evo by the scruff of its neck and I can't wait for the new tyres to be fitted tomorrow! The front of the car was sliding as I was experimenting with roundabout entry speeds. :o The back of the car feels like its steering which I think is the AYC/ACD??

Need to learn more about it however. Tomorrow the new tyres are fitted and then its straight to Drury Lane for a geometry adjustment if Paul can fit me in Smile Not had the geometry done since the car was lowered so its gonna be alot off! Big Grin
