It's very geeky but I am looking forward to seeing the difference between the two rolling road graphs. It will be interesting to see how the line on the graph equates to the butt dyno! I know the GT4 ECU leans out at the top end where the MR2 keeps running rich all through the range which is more or less where the power difference comes from but the VE map is different (better) on the GT4 ECU as well which helps. I was 258bhp last time, with a broken engine mount and a misfire.

My first run will be with the MR2 ECU, changes from last time are TRD engine mounts, working ignition components and a Fidanza lightweight flywheel. I will only have to pull 1 pin from the ECU harness (a newly installed one labeled MTT) as the MR2 ECU uses this pin for the optional TRC unit, and then replace the chargecooler relay with a link wire (which in turn disconnects the other pin I had to remove from the ECU harness that was in use, the cooling fan one) to go back to running the MR2 ECU. I think that may be 5-10bhp better than before.

Once that's done I will reinstall the MTT pin and relay, whack the GT4 ECU on and see what happens. As stock the JDM ST205 is 10bhp more powerful than the JDM MR2 so I could be looking at 20bhp up from my last run for not a lot of work (and no boost increase) Big Grin

Red is MR2 ECU, black is ST205 ECU. Note the difference in fuelling on the 2nd graph!!

Right, onwards and upwards. I have found the later revision ST205 ECU on eBay, so the next step is to bag that and send it over to the guy who is doing all this ECU disassembly (who provided with me with the maps from the stock ECU, which is how I knew the ST205 one would be better). None of us know what the difference is between the earlier and later ST205 ECUs, as no one has disassembled the later rev one before so that should be interesting. If it's any better then it will go in my car, if it offers no reasonable benefit then it will have one of his experimental new daughterboards fitted into it to turn it into a mappable ECU on the cheap. My current presumption is that it has extra emissions control in it so it won't perform as well, but we shall see. My old MR2 ECU has now been contributed to this project too.

Also just bought a shiny new toy for the car, one that I have been meaning to get since I first bought it all those years ago! It's a bit of an eBay bargain so I will keep quiet about it until it turns up, incase it turns out to be junk. You'll only have to wait a week or so Big Grin
