My Toyota MR2 build thread - 1994 GT-S
It arrived yesterday
Kenwood DNX-7200, in perfect nick but missing the remote control. It was a *lot* cheaper than I've ever seen one for sale before but a bit of a punt seeing as it was coming from Lithuania!!! However it's here, it's got western europe maps on it, it works 100% in English and I am happier than a pig in **** I've wanted one of these since I got the sodding car lol
Would be good to know how you get on with it mate once you have fitted it.
Thats the kind of headunit I'm wanting for the car , would you like to give me a PM as to how much you paid for it , just so I know what I'm looking at spending
Yeah I think I may have mentioned it in your thread but I was keeping quiet about mine until it actually arrived and worked lol
YHPM
I've already modified it so that video playback works all the time (not just when the car is stationary). Things left to do are connect the reversing switch so the rear camera comes on automatically, refix/repair the rear camera with a new rubber grommet and do some soldering. Previously I had modified the old head unit -> iso loom to incorporate my new speaker wires, remote lead etc. This time I intend to do the modifications to the autoleads iso -> toyota adaptor so that both the car wiring and stereo wiring stay intact. But my soldering irons are 25 miles away so that's a weekend job
Oh yeah I need to put the GPS antenna in a more sensible place but the wire on that is about 5 miles long so that's no big deal
On the plus side I am due to start renting a small unit on a farm soon with a friend so all my tools and parts etc will be in one nearby dry place!
You got a great deal there mate , good for you !!!

This weekend I have:
Connected the HKS CAMP to the Kenwood DNX7200! It's *awesome* to finally have this working but very distracting while driving lol
Moved the GPS antenna so that it's hidden behind the rear window trim. Gets full signal the instant you turn the thing on!
Resoldered a wire which had come out in the fusebox, meaning the total closure and heated seats work again (just in time for hot weather)
Finished doing the retracting mirrors. This involved separating the wiring for them from the donor wiring looms I had and inserting those wires and pins into the existing looms and connectors. I transferred the remaining retracting internals into the passenger mirror and it all works great - I got 2 wires the wrong way round in the driver's door but other than that it worked first time. I have figured out how to link retracting to locking/unlocking with the alarm fob, but I need some diodes for that. I have fitted the mirror glass with heater elements, and connected new wiring up for them - this runs into the door but currently no further.
I also drilled the holes in my front bumper for my UK numberplate mount. However I didn't really think it through so now I need to take the bumper off to get to the back of the holes to hold a nut on - if I had just used self tappers I wouldn't have to worry. Seeing as I'm going to have to go to all the hassle I'm going to fibreglass over the nuts to make them captive.
Unfortunately I also found that some of my new paint is peeling So that'll be going back to the bodyshop!
Didn't manage to get anything done on Sunday so I am in the same boat as Hurricane... lots to do before the Ace Cafe meet!
Back to the list...
