Hi All,

Thought i would just add this as a heads up to those with certain HP laptops.

Sarah bought a HP something or other laptop back in 2007 from John Lewis and it has recently just died, just out of warrenty!!!!!

A mate of mine looked at it and he said he thought the motherboard was fried! My dad has his office next to a computer engineer so we handed it over to him.

He has confirmed that the solder on the motherboard has just melted and fried the motherboard. He also said that it is a common fault with the HP laptops that use a NVidia chip and they ALL break just out of warrenty.

He pointed us to this website http://www.nvidiadefect.com and it appaers there is a dedicated forum for this. It also gives information on how to claim as the fault is covered by a SIX year extended warrenty.

I have now been on the phone with John Lewis several times this morning talking to different people and it looks like i might be getting somewhere! The website states that we should get a refund/replacement.

The manager i spoke to at John Lewis seems very helpfull and has actually said over the phone that we should either get a repair, replacement or refund. No company will repair these laptops so its going to be replace or refund!

Will let you know how i get on but if anyone else has a HP laptop that stops working then check that website!!!!!

Im glad we took it to this engineer as otherwise we would have just chucked the laptop in the bin as its out of warrenty, or so we thought.
