Hello Everyone,

If poss could someone shed some light?

My 2001 is200 battery was flat this morning, after jump starting it and taking it for a spin it was fine.

Switched the engine off and locked the car and the EFI relay under the bonnet keeps making a clicking sound. I assume this is what caused the battery to drain?

I have tried swapping it with the horn relay (They are both the same) but unfortunatly no luck. I have also fitted a new battery in both the key fob and main car battery but still the same problem.

It seems to be linked with the alarm system as the security light on the dash seems to flicker with the clicking sound (No aftermarket alarm is fitted, its all standard). This light still flickers without the relay in its place.

I've searched around and noticed a few people have come across this problem but there doesnt seem to be a definate fix.... does anyone have any ideas or had this experience? I'm lost!

Thanks in advance!

hi mate welcome to ojc, unfortunately this is a bit of a mystery still, i have had the same problem before as you have probably read and mine seems to be ok now. try turning the ignition to start with the relay out, nothing should happen then take key out and reset the ecu by pulling the 2 fuses out for five minutes or so. replace fuses and relay and start the car up. it seemed to work for me doing this but i cant garantee it will cure it forever.

Hi dino. Thanks for the quick reply. I already reset the ecu (by disconnecting the battery for about 30 mins) but this didnt work for me. I will take the relay out and try your sequence of steps tomorrow and give you a shout back. Thanks again Smile

somehow the relays seem to get confusedand keeps getting a signal to open so you just got to try and find a way of unconfusing the relay to stop it switching

I'm just guessing here. But does the siren still work in the alarm ? That's located in a box in the boot. When the alarm goes off, it sounds both the horn and a siren too (not a hugely loud one). Try setting the alarm off and see if you can hear both the horn and siren.

Just wondering whether something has gone wrong with the siren unit (which has its own self-contained battery to power it).

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Another update... no good news unfortunately! Tried the reset by taking the two fuses out, but still the same.

Will test for the siren now, will pull the relay out for the horn so it should be clear if the siren is working or not.

It all seems strange as there was heavy rain before it all happened, i read about checking the driver and passenger side as that’s usually where the problems can happen... but both are dry!

Hi Rabster, no i haven't had a new windscreen fitted. I did read about peoples lights staying on etc due to a poor seal, but my car is dry in both areas.

Steviewevie: The siren works fine, unplugged the relay for the horn and siren goes off as it should.

Hmm, very suspicious if it happened after heavy rain. I would try pouring a few buckets of water or using a pressure washer on the windscreen, and see if that makes it do it again.

I had the same problem once on mine, i think it is due to water ingress though.

was some thing to do with the main ecu so cut a wire and soldered it to another live and the problem stopped, cant remember the exact details though sorry
