I've had a weird intermittent problem the last few weeks - every so often the car would lose power at low revs. It was mainly noticeable if I was driving along and then braked for something, then as I'd come off the brakes and back onto the throttle there'd be nothing for about a second, and then suddenly the power would kick in again.

This afternoon the problems got a bit worse as the car seems to be idling really low - around 500rpm, is that ok? I'm sure it normally idles at around 700rpm when warm. Worse still I was sitting at a few traffic lights and the car started quivering, felt like it was going to stall but it hasn't so far.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Have you been letting your fuel run low as it could be residue from the bottom of the tank causing a obstruction to the fuel.

I normally run the tank pretty empty (usually till there's only about 5-7 litres left), but I've done that pretty much every tank since I bought the car..........

Shouldn't be to do with running the fuel low, because the fuel comes out of the bottom of the tank at all times anyway.

500rpm is a bit low for idling, yes, it should be more like 650 or so.

Possibly a problem with an O2 sensor ? Maybe just dirty ? If there was a major O2 sensor fault then you'd get a code.

There isn't anything possibly obstructing the accelerator pedal is there, is it still moving normally ?

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Its not good to run your car that low all the time.
Have you cleaned your fuel filter it could have particles in there that are slowing the fuel getting through
I guess you have no code showing up

Hmmm, I was thinking that too, if it was a major problem I'd get some warning light. Nope nothing in the way of the accelerator pedal, it moves fine. It's more the drop in revs and quivering that's got me concerned now - obviously they may not even be connected......

I might have to just book the car in and see what they say but my guess is that they'll say there's nothing wrong with it :Fish:

Btw, I didn't mean I always run the tank empty - I fill it up, run it to empty, then fill it again, so it's always going from full to pretty much empty and then back to full again. But either way I thought the same as Steve that the fuel comes from the bottom anyway so that couldn't be it. And as for maintenance, no I haven't cleaned anything but Lexus must do that when it's serviced? Blush

Marsdendean Lexus Should do, but maybe a quick check of the air filter won't go a miss? You simply pull the two metal tabs away from the "L" on the engine cover, and pull the thing upwards!

I don't even know where the fuel filter is but the air filter I do know - but I only put that in recently I think but I guess it might do with a clean. How do you actually clean the K&N filters?
