Tonight is painting the caliper carriers and maybe the rear calipers also.
Had some free time last night so popped over to the unit and stripped the chargecooler off the engine so that I could get to the ignition system. Tested the spark plugs, the ht leads, dizzy cap, ignition coil, rotor arm, temp sensors and TPS. The ignition coil wasn't quite in spec but close enough that it might just've been because it was warm. I struggled to get any kind of reading at all through the cap + leads (testing them as one unit) until I realised the contacts inside the dizzy cap were completely furred up with white corrosion! It's only 6 months old!! There was a little oil in there which has irritated me because it has all new seals, and one seal had definitely failed as it came out in pieces. So I took a bit of wet'n'dry and a flat screwdriver to the contacts for now and scraped a lot of **** off. Cleaned the oil from the broken seal (it will do for now) and the inside of the cap, then gave it a coating of WD40 to prevent any water ingress. I've a new one on order but can't pay for it til the end of the month so that will have to do.

I still haven't got around to doing the caliper carriers and they're realistically not going to get done before I go to Le Mans so it's time to concentrate on more important things. I changed oil + filter today (Silkolene Pro S 5w40 + Genuine Toyota filter). No crud on the magnetic sump plug, which was nice. I bought a 16 litre drain pan when I moved into the unit and it was invaluable, thoroughly recommended. Didn't spill a drop
Cleaned up some mess from a previous oil leak and tightened up a few bits and bobs that looked loose. Found a bit of belt in the bay but can't see anything missing from the alternator or aircon belts so I guess it's left over from when my previous alternator belt snapped... I have a spare anyway. You know you've left it too long when you change the oil and the car instantly feels better!!
I discovered the other day that my aircon doesn't work any more. I had left the gauge from my refilling kit on the L valve in the frunk and it looks like when I did some power wiring last I knocked it into such a position that it leaked, so there's no gas in there at all. I tried a regas but I didn't have enough left in the bottle, so that's something to add to the shopping list.
Also finally sorted out my UK spec bumper. I had previously written about fibreglassing 2 M10 nuts into the bumper. While I was doing that I broke the free numberplate mount that I'd been given. I bought another one off IMOC and the bloke sent it with the original Toyota bolts for mounting it... imagine how smug I felt when they bolted straight up :thumbup1:

Gummed up a hole in my exhaust. The midpipe on my exhaust is a hateful mild steel affair and one of the flanges has been skimmed so many times in an attempt to make it fit it's now quite thin, and guess what, that's where the hole was. Exhaust paste to the rescue. Car sounds slightly less like an Impreza now (hole in exhaust + misfire).
So tomorrow lunchtime I have to go to Halfords and get some numberplate strips, as it's not fixed on too well at the moment. Also need some fuses, spare bulbs, and aircon can for the holiday. Plus my dizzy cap is in at Toyota so I can swap the arm and cap over for new ones and (hopefully) cure my misfire!
Wonder if Dan fancies another trip out :lol:
