Just to balance the argument a bit, sometimes we're all a bit harsh on the banks. It's the system that enabled it. Same way everytime I have a rant about immigrants and how they abuse the system, people always tell me that it's because the opportunity exists that it happens.

And in the same way this is all Brown's fault. He took away power from the BoE, gave it all to the nonsense FSA and allowed the banks free reign on whatever they wanted to do. Obviously given that kind of freedom they were going to grab it with both hands and run for it. Yes it blew up in their faces but with the correct regulation it never would have happened.

This government are having to really tighten up thanks to their predecessors' mistakes, VAT is most likely to go up unfortunately (Brown should never have cut VAT at such a critical time) so I doubt we'll see much spending on any traffic calming in the near future.

In any case, even if the money is being spent, I'd rather it was on those flashing speed signs than on speed cameras Smile

I think we are to hard on the normal shop floor bank person as their wages are fairly low and is made up with profit share.

As for the top of the tree these people have been playing with our money for too long and have never been punished for being wreckless.
What other business do you get a bonus for loosing money for your company.

This whole system is a joke and who pays it the tax payer each time.

Will any of us see money returned in to our own pockets when they start making million in profits again, i bet not...

A little harsh, the current state isn't Cameron's fault :tongue_smilie:

Besides, not sure about you but the ridiculously low interest rates due to the banking crisis has saved me an absolute fortune on my mortgage payments - it can't last as it's killing the economy but for now I definitely wouldn't be due a rebate

Doesnt matter who's fault it is, Camerons government is handing out the tax hikes so tehrefore to me its their fault

I personally havent saved any monies

Diesel prices are sky high
Beer prices continually rise
Tobacco prices continually rise

personally i feel raped, i wonder each day why i bother working all these hours to be anally intruded by tax, national insurance, and tax on consumables

What have i ever donew rong to deserve this?

If we took a hard stance on this and seized teh assets of RBS, sold them all off to foreign company's i bet we could cut the deficit by over half

If you ever voted labour then you did do something wrong :tongue_smilie:

Seriously though I'm not sure what RBSs current financial position is but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have a net asset position that would create the required capital. I think they should have let RBS collapse, but now they've put the money in we have to let it play out its course and wait for it to be profitable again (which shouldn't be too long in the grand scheme of things)

I do agree with you though, this country isn't a great place to live at the mo Confusedad:

Lol ive always voted tory

I have no idea about figures on RBS etc, it was just an example that lets say the government took charge of all banks and sold there assets we could make a dent in the deficit

its jsut a real shame they dont identify the people that made these mistakes and make them fix it instead of us Sad

never hear of such issues in switzerland

All major banks have the same problems even the Swiss.

The goverment bought into the bank when the bank value was around 15p pershare today those share are worth around 45p.

So the Goverment could sell some share each year back to the bank.
This could not be done in large amounts or the bank shares could drop again.

Did you know that two years ago these same share were £19 each

dangerous game gambling on shares, shareholders etc etc

the only problem is everyone over-complicates things

nationalise the banks, sell them off
