Hi all,

Just got back from Manchester.

I was driving back to Ilkley from Manchester and I noticed my coolant warning light lit up on the M66! (the temp gauge stayed around the half way mark- it didn't shoot up into the red zone) I pulled over quickly as I could and popped open the bonnet. Looked at the radiator window (behind the radiator)- the coolant level was full. I didn't open the cap on the radiator (didn't fancy getting burnt with hot coolant today).

Anyone explain why this happened? Drove back to Ilkley and the coolant warning light didn't light up at all. Only thing I can think of that could have caused this is there there was a lot of rain on the motorway this morning (and driving back this afternoon as well). Could the rainwater affected the coolant sensor? The waterpump was replaced 23k ago and the themostat is working. The temp gauge always stays around the half way mark.

I may well be forgetting something, but I didn't think there was a coolant warning light. What did the light look like ?

What symbol is on it ? There are two oil warning lights, with the oil can on - one is for low level and the other low pressure. Sorry if I'm insulting your intelligence here, but as you sure it's not one of those, and it's the low oil level light (low oil pressure light is red I think).

Yeah, I have been told there is no low coolant light- guess I'd better check my oil level!

If it's an oil can with a wavy line under it, that's the low oil level warning light.

Did you check your oil level ? How low was it ? Just curious as to how low it needs to be to make the warning light come on (hope I don't find out through a practical example !).
