Yeah and the lack of airflow!! The more work I do on them the more I think they were never designed to have the turbo engine in and it was just plonked in there from the Celica for the hell of it. I've messed about with it from stock a lot as well remember, it has no side fan anymore and it has the chargecooler sat partially over the top of the turbo heat shield which is a bit backwards.

Well there are a lot of them available for Rev1/2 engines as they simply replace the TVIS plate with a big thick Teflon spacer instead. Rev3+ doesn't have that luxury! The only one I've found is a Gizzmo one (yes the EBC people) but they're not rocket science. It's ordered now anyway.

And the main reason I'm doing this is because I did 2 dyno runs a month apart and lost 30bhp! Hopefully once it's done the power should be back up to ~290 like it was before.

Split the turbo apart today to find more blown gaskets.

All the exhaust path, downpipe, midpipe, manifold and turbo:

This gasket is mangled, you can see the hole around the bottom left stud, and it's broken at the top about 1/3rd of the way across. You can see the split gasket and black soot around it.

Took the actuator and the exhaust housing off. The advice I got for separating the 2 parts was using chisels... it took 5!!

Bob found chips in 2 of the compressor blades and some rubbing on the exhaust wheel, so that's new shaft & compressor wheel (they are one piece on these turbos) but the exhaust wheel should balance out. Off to universal turbos for balancing now... and definitely not back for JAE.
