Hey all,

Im a new member from the Braintree, Essex area.

Always mean to start a project thread with every car i get and never get round to it. So i have finally decided to put one up for my slightly different Altezza.

Purchased this with the following specification:

1999 Toyota Altezza
2.0 NA Beams Engine
112,000 (Mixture of KMs and Ms)
Fully Vinyl wrapped (was a former show car for RT Performance) white with black roof
JC Project solid flywheel
Exedy organic clutch
Cusco front upper strut brace
Rota GTR wheels 17" 9.5j ET30
TRD rear back box
3000k HID kit (very yellow!!)
Tein MonoFlex coilovers
Cusco rear anti-roll bar
half leather full electric interior
matt black front lip
new is200 battery with gold plated battery terminals
Fluids and belts all changed end of 2011 (Although no proof of this ConfusedmashSmile

Few pics:

So that was a month ago, there where a few little problems with the car but nothing to much:

The manifold to downpipe has a blow in it because one of the three studs has been snapped so new manifold and downpipe gaskets are being ordered and i will put a new bolt in the exhaust.

There is also a small twenty pence piece hole in one of the exhaust pipes under the car so im going to get that welded up and wrapped in heat wrap.

The release bearing has been changed for a genuiene toyota one that was supplied by the owner with the car but the noise when you lift the clutch is still present. I am going to change the spigot bearing to see if this changes things. After a lot of reading it seems to be a fairly common noise on these motors even after changing all associated parts so might just have to keep the music turned up

I originally wanted to get this car just to drive around in for a while and to have something different, but i cant seem to leave things alone. So whilst driving and getting used to the car i have been slowly creating a list of things i want to do. I couldnt help myself but take the car on a drift day at Norfolk Arena where it got a lot of attention. After owning an s14a for a year and drifting that most months it was a big change drifting the NA and back to the B lane!! But this helped me see what areas i want to concentrate on first. That turned out to be handling set up.

First things first is to sort out the exhaust leaks, hopefully the bearing noise and also have a genuiene toyota AFM coming as the one that is on there is a patent item and i dont think it is doing performance much good. :euge:

The Tein coilovers are knocking on the rear and i personally just dont really like them so a set of HSDs will be going on followed by a set of fully adjustable camber arms so i can straighten the rear and get the front properly aligned. This will probably result in the arches being rolled and some work done to the vinyl around the arches.

I then want to uprate the front anti roll bar and bushes as i believe this to be the stock item.

Thats the easy options, its a heavy car and i have contemplated stripping it but i quite like the idea of an executive drift wagon. Keeping all the luxuries working. Although the front seats have no support at all so a mate of mine suggested some smart leather bucket seats to keep the "executive" look.

So if i want to keep all that weight the other option is power . After owning the s14a i am really missing turbo life so am contemplating doing a 3SGTE conversion from a Celica GT4 to sort out the issues of me missing a turbo and power vs weight. From what i read people make it sound like a fairly easy conversion but im sure this isnt the case!! Other than that am also looking at dropping an 1/2JZ lump in it as the IS300 was running a 2JZ none turbo as far as im aware or going away from toyota and back to an S or R body lump. What are peoples opinions.......??

Hope you guys like

From what I've heard the 3sgte is a very hard conversion to do, 1jz have been done successfully, check out stav and Sam b build threads both awesome builds, a 2jz conversion isn't worth the money or hassle, it'd be cheaper to buy an is300 and turbo charge it, nice car though love white is

Thanks mate

Seem to get a lot of different opinions on whether its easy or hard. Also heard they arent the strongest of engines either so am currently leaning towards a 1JZ

You assume correctly! The 3SGTE isn't designed to be mounted inline. You considered any of the bolt on kits for the 3SGE? From memory I think there's a TOM's turbo kit and a Blitz supercharger kit.

There is normally quite a few problems with the oil pick up because of this reason.

I have had a quick look and all the new kits seem to be around the £4k mark and only gives an extra 50bho. Doesn't seem much when for a bit more you can do an engine conversion and get 300-500bhp!!

Nice looking car mate. I agree with others though 1j the way to go, no too hard to do and lots of bits available.

nice motor mate, saw it for sale in various places. will have to meet up and have a mini tezza meet, as im not that far and maybe get kev with a yellow tezza from witham.

tezzaworld has a fair bit of info on engine swaps , im considering trying a 1jz next year but need another car before i can do that because of work. mine has a chatter coming from the clutch, im guessing its to do with the flywheel. does yours make the samurai sound when starting the engine?

Thanks mate. Im always up for a meet so just get in touch on here if you want to sort something. I have seen the yellow one driving round, looks nice, never realised he lived so close.

Hopefully picking up a 1JZ lump for this over the next few weeks. It will be a slow project unfortunately as most my money tied up in moving out for the first time but i can do a lot of the work myself and luckily have a work van so i havent got a problem with the car being off the road.

The chatter is quite common apparently. Does it disappear when you press the clutch?
Haha, yes it makes that noise, was only discussing with a mate this evening what it sounded like and thats what we came up with!!
