Manual or Auto?
Manual or Auto?
Pro's and cons of each?
Never owned an auto before, but have driven a few. One part of me wants to go for an auto; smoothness, and laziness to an extent, but the other part of me says stick with the manual - more control over it, plus the manual (in the IS) is 6 speed vs 4 speed in the auto...
But you guys have more experience with them than I, so what do you think about the manual vs auto in the IS?
I had a Manual Is200 and An Auto Nissan Stagea i ahve to say i hate Auto, your never in full control of the power
i would hang out for a decent Manual car mate

I saw Speedfreek's one - it's not what I'm after, and the 300, as much as I'd love the extra torque and power, isn't a viable option for me (insurance etc)
I've found two cars, very very similarly spec'd, almost identical mileage, a year apart (03 and 04) - one manual and one auto. The auto is the newer, 04, Sport model with 1k less on the clock, but is £300 dearer than the manual - although the manual (an SE) is 4hrs away, the other side of Manchester (nearly Blackburn), whereas the more expensive auto is in South West London, roughly an hour away. Hmm.......
I don't think it's so much of a "which would I prefer" as such, as I'm open to either - it's more of a "which is a better drive" (bearing in mind my days of spirited, performance, driving are done - hence looking for the more comfortable, quiet, smooth Lexus, than out and out performance and hanging it round bends! Although there is always the lure of turbo charging it )
I found insurance on the is300 was cheaper vs is200 from every single insurance company.
edit: take the manual 6 speed, 4 speed auto is pants and you'll get even worse fuel economy than the already terrible mpg on the 6 speed manual. Manual is also more fun if you have the sport diff.
I had an auto Altezza RS200 for a few days (they are that bad) and that was as slow as the hills - would hate to feel how slow an IS200 auto would be.
Matt_C Ha, the irony there is the auto is the Sport model with the LSD, and the manual is the SE model without the LSD - typical!
