Is300 turbo
Is300 turbo
Right thought I would start a new thread as I've decided on my next projects a you can quests it's an is300 turbo.
I'm looking to get another engine and rebuild that as they seam cheap enough and can get the pistons in a few different sizes so condition is not overly important.
Just a few quick questions as all the turbo kits I have found are for the left hand drive and don't look like they would for fit the right hand drive car could I use the manifold off a supra turbo conversion? There the same engine it's just the space that looks different, has any 1 on here turbo'd an is300? And where do people take the oil feed for the turbo do u use a sandwich plate or use the vvti banjo like on the is200 conversion.

Iirc the supra conversions won't fit, the manifold is to big on a supra.
I know the turbo on the us version of the is300 is too far back so will hit the brake servo and poss the steering shaft

this was the kit i was looking to get but after speaking to the company it wont fit the right hand drive cars

so after some more searching and a few more emails i found this kit, the seller said it will fit the uk car as the turbo flange is more centered.

this is why i thought the supra na-t kit would fit if you look at the manifolds on the second and third link there almost the same, also the 3 link list the is300 in the cars at the bottom of the page.

It will b if I could find the perfect manifold.
spare engine found and paid for just need to strip it when it comes then I can order the pistons, rods and bearings ready for when i found a manifold that fits.

Just spend the money on getting a manifold made. You can then pick any turbo you like. Size the turbo for your requirements and pay for a good manifold to be made.
If you get a manifold made. get a twin scroll with flap. That way you can spool quicker by closing the flap. Then open up later in the range
The problem I have the guy I use for manifolds is busy for months can anyone recommend a company?
What turbo would you recommend to do the job I'm looking to run about 450 - 500 bhp after I have swapped the gearbox or at least strengthened the internals

The IS300 gearbox is the same as the GS430 5 speed, you might be surprised at what it can deal with. There is loads of information on the supra forums about building the auto though, it's the (Toyota designation) A650E
Go and have a look at some compressor maps, you will need about 21psi to boost a 2J to 500 (on paper at least). this is about 1.44 bar, so find a compressor map for a turbo that can deal with a pressure ratio of 2.44 and then get the smallest turbo you can get to fulfil that goal (if you care about response). If you're more interested in top end numbers and want to do more in the future, find one that can go higher.
