Subaru Impreza turbo wagon daily
Subaru Impreza turbo wagon daily
Thought I'd start a thread about my daily. Now don't expect huge mods or anything like that. The only thing I'll be doing is turning it from a slightly neglected example into a nice and tidy daily.
I bought it from a friend of mine who has now moved into the world of vw campers. I wasn't really looking for a new car but it was more exciting than my e46 318i tourer and it's jap! Nevermind the fact it was a bargain! He'd bought it from a chap who owns a Scooby specialists and took it back there for its checkups. So it's been serviced well for a reasonable time of its life.
Here she is when I picked her up:
Nearly perfectly standard example but a bit neglected. Only mods are:
Sti down pipe
Sti back box
4 pot front calipers
Everything else is as found from the factory more or less.
First job was to give it a ruddy good clean, as my mate has dogs and the interior was pretty minging.
But after removing the front seats and giving it a quick wash, scrubbing the wheels, and then hoovering the inside she came up fairly clean
Next things to do were little jobs to tidy it up:
Oil and filter change
Repair screw in passenger rear
Replace drivers seat belt that had a rip, easily done with one from eBay
Replace the fuel flap as the spring had gone and you had to lever it open
New wipers front and rear
The previous owner had also put some blue LEDs in the dash and could barely see it, so I took the dash out and they are the same ones as the IS200 dash which meant i had a drawer full of standard ones so I can read the dash properly now.
Then a couple of other jobs, first was tighten the handbrake, this is reasonably easy on the Scooby as you adjust it from a grommet at the back of the wheel, flicking up a cog same as the IS200.
Then I also had a couple of rust patches, extremely common on the Scooby apparently, just on the rear arch. This was the worst side
I just sanded both sides back to metal and treated it with the rusteze type stuff that hardens the metal again, then used a rattle can to respray it. Not perfect but a lot better than before and should hold off the rot for a few more years.
Now the mods started, but not in any meaningful way; so far they are
Set of floor mats!
Universal roof rack (only fitted when needed)
Dab stereo
bluetooth kit from my old daily
And that's it.
Then this weekend because I've got the Lexus up and running I gave it a good wash, swirl removal, and polish
Looking much better!
She also got a fresh MOT this week so well happy.
Other Jobs now left on the list:
Today I spent a little bit of time on the subaru.
Changed the damp filler neck. There was a LOT of dirt and mud around that area from over the years lol.
Got a new genuine subaru one off eBay, I've sprayed it black to try and protect it and make it last a little longer.
So that's tidied that up and will prevent any more fuel leaking.
I also removed the rear exhaust back box heatshield as that was just resting in the back box.
Finally I untwisted the brake pipe on the front passenger and discovered its got braided hoses on!
That's it for now with the Scooby. Hopefully no-one will see it this weekend as the Lexus is coming to Japshow.
got some new Foglights from a friend of a firend for the grand total of nothing. Thats made the front a bit tidier now
