Get in touch with trading standards to find out what they say you have to do.

You should be able to send it to a Lexus dealer you may have to pay the excess until fault has been found.

Call your local Lexus dealer and ask them who they use, they will almost certainly contract out body work.

+1, Lexus and Toyota don't take on bodywork themselves.

I'd be looking at the coachworks one first if it comes to it. It's only a name but it inspires a bit more confidence IMO Smile

As I said before recently in another thread, it's up to you what body shop you use, not the insurers, just so long as the insurance company approves the quote. It doesn't have to go to an "approved" body shop.

Has the other party now admitted liability ? Because unless he has (or does), you're going to have to pay your excess anyway, I'm afraid. One of their "approved" body shops might have deal where the excess is paid by the insurers straight to them, *if* the other party is at fault (as opposed to you paying the excess then claiming it back).

Most decent body shops will quote a similar price for work, since they use automated systems to produce the quote, and prices for parts will be very similar.

Dean, Lexus Bracknell did a superb job on fixing my bodywork a while back. They have their own bodyshop at their Toyota garage.

Insurance companies give body shops something stupid like £35 per hour and only £42 per hour for luxury cars, so if pares are similar then labour will also be the same. The place doing the MR2 was saying that the payments are hardly worth the hassle.

ok i will try and work something out when i speak to them again next.
that was the exact reason i wanted to use bracknell cos i remembered you saying that they did a good job for you so wanted the same treatment for me and my car. so basically i could just take it to bracknell pay the £400 excess if i dont get it back, i dont get it back, at least i know the jobs done properly the first time round hopefully!

I would question the insurance company about what they told you about your excess. Get them to confirm that means you'll definitely get your excess back if you take it to one of their garages ? They will probably soon backtrack and say "err, well, it depends on whose fault it was", etc.

I had to pay an excess for the work on my car (I paid it direct to Lexus Bracknell), but that's because some moron vandalised my car. So I had to claim of my own insurance, i.e. effectively it was "my" fault.

As I said in the other thread, I got a few quotes for the work on my car. Lexus's was the most expensive quote. But they gave me the best impression that they would do a good job. I put just that one quote to the insurance company, their inspector checked out my car, and the quote was approved.
