For all those that may have read recently I had some issues coded a 2nd key to my new (to me) purchase last week.

The car was taken to Lexus guildford for coding where I was told that my master key was actually a sub key and that they couldnt code my spare key.

they did however give me the details of an auto locksmith who said that he could copy the key so it would be a spare, but neither would be the master key. The cost of this was £105 plus vat.

I had a look around where I work and found one literally round the corner from where I work in Gatwick and had a chat with him yesterday and booked it in for this morning.

The result??

I now have 2 coded master keys, with the spare also programmed for door unlocking as well.

The cost??

£150 inc.vat.. The imobiliser was removed and reflashed so that it recognised both keys as Master keys. He went through and showed me that the car actually had 5 keys coded for it!!

Anyway, its all sorted, for a relatively small amount- especially if you take into account people and dealers saying you need new keys and an ECU- you dont. you just need a decent auto locksmith who knows what they are doing...

For anyone who wants his details- he's Gatwick based but is mobile (and I guess the price charged would reflect that?)

Anyway:

Gatwick Auto Locksmiths, Kelvin Way, Crawley, RH10 9SE
01293 536377
[email protected]

Can thoroughly recomend them, they did a superb job- even if I do have to go back tomorrow as I was £10 short..

Hang on, does that mean I could theoretically turn my valet key into a master and have 3 master keys? Or does the system only recognise 2 masters?

And then what's the point if you can turn a valet into a master?

Really confused by the whole thing, especially that it seems Lexus may not have known that this was possible (despite the potential revenue, it seems silly that they would say the only option was a new ECU and all if it could be reprogrammed)

Glad you got it sorted though, that's a pretty decent result!

Good result there Smile

I remember reading somewhere that the valet keys are exactly the same as the master key and can be programmed as such, but the casing only has openings for 2 buttons. The third button for boot release etc is apparently on the PCB of the valet keys as well, you just need a case that has the three buttonholes and to make up a third button of sorts to press. So you can turn a valet key into a master fairly easily.

Can't for the life of me remember where I read that though...

IS200 Sport - Sold
Mazda 6 MPS - Zoom Zoom!

hi
now im really confused, i to only had the sub key when i bought my is200 and have been looking into a new master for a while now. After reading this thread i split my key and it has a small push button under a clear plastic lense where boot lid remote button is. So, if i am thinking correctly i can dremmel\remove clear lense covering get a three key fob with buttons and then this would work like a master or am i wrong and still need to get key programmed
[Image: RIMG0017.jpg][/IMG] this is a pic of transponder on bottom right is clear lense with switch

No, the sub key is still the sub key- as above, if you want it as a master the ecu needs to be reflashed..
