As far as manufacturers go, Samsung and LG are leading the way at the moment. Although the Bravias are nice, Sony are in the process of getting rid of their TV division after spending the last couple of years losing millions while they keep getting continually out priced by South Korea's LG and Samsung.

One thing I found during my fairly recent hunt for a new LCD PC gaming monitor, is that the latest technology regarding LCD picture quality is a feature/hardware called IPS. I'm not exactly sure what it stands for, or how it works. But the end result is colour reproduction that cannot be beaten. You lose a few ms response time, which for TV and films you will never notice with a human eye. But the difference in colour contrast and reproduction is fantastic.

Another thing I would recommend to go for is a screen that is LED backlit. Again, you get much better contrast from LEDs, and also you can get models with a feature called 'dynamic contrast' which means the LEDs can be selectively dimmed/brightened in specific areas to make blacks blacker and whites whiter so you get right to the edges of the contrast spectrum.

EDIT: Also, another recommendation of mine would be to get one with minimum of 120fps. Higher is better, but 120 is the lowest I would go. Purely because with double the standard frame rate you will get much smoother fast action scenes and it will help prevent ghosting. Or instead of watching a single picture at 120fps, the frames can be filtered to show 2 seperate images overlapped at 60fps (at a total of 120fps), thus providing you with 3D :thumbup1:

It's for digital sound. So if you get surround sound you can run the sound from the tele to the surround sound.
