I'm rather scared of the whole idea of drilling the sump plug, after what happened last time ! I realise in theory it should be ok though, only a slightly smaller hole would be much stronger, I would guess.

Have you got a stock oil level sender you could lose? They're normally fitted directly into the oil pan.

I think it does go into the pan. You mean to lose that and use the hole ? I wonder if that could be done without having to take the sump off ?

Yeah, it will be a screw in sensor so you'll just have to match threads up with an adaptor. It could easily be done without taking the sump off, just drain oil, unscrew old sensor, screw in new one. It will be in the pan somewhere as that's really the only place you can measure oil level. It's a bit of a numpty warning light anyway, you strike me as the kind of person to check their oil pretty regularly Smile Not sure how ECU based it is in the IS though, whether it would flash a CEL or not.

Normally you can just bridge them to make the warning go off too.

I took delivery of this a while back, it's still taking up space in my lounge :

So why haven't I put it on yet ? Well, I already have a new mid-section of my exhaust, from my turbo conversion. You can see that part here, extending back as far as the cat :

So my plan is to put in the HKS Silent Hi-Power along with a sports cat, just that I haven't sorted out a sports cat yet (I don't want a decat pipe). Figure I might as well go the whole hog, it seems silly to have the whole exhaust replaced but leave the OEM cat in there (which would probably turn into a restrictor).

How many cats does the car have, precats near the exhaust manifold and then a single main cat as pictured?

Yep, two cats in the manifold, one in each branch (which I don't have any more, since I've got a new manifold for the turbo), plus that main cat.
