Altezza Build!
Altezza Build!
So last night I got stuck into a late night of solid machining and got loads done. Made new topmounts.
Set up the topmounts to machine the stud loactions
machined out a few little bits and bobs to fit the new bearings which are a different size and sent everything for anodizing.
Got it all back today, look awesome!
Dampers came back from dyno too, absolutely mint!
Dampers all sprayed up and ready to go. Plan to fit everything tomorrow morning and she's back on the road! it's running very rich and cuts out so I'm hoping a good hard run will help it and everything will be back to normal.
Then the real stuff can begin! I kept buying parts hoping that would be the last of it and I've managed to run out of money :crying: lol so probably nothing too exciting yet I'm afraid, I am planning to save up for some individual throttle bodies next I think and making an adapter plate as you can't buy TRD ones anymore. That along with some stainless bends for a full high flow exhaust system with a cat so I can pass mot's and keep the noise down a little so I don't go deaf. Also have a really big radiator core which I want to look into welding up and fitting so she's always running at a good temperature even when being pushed.
If I don't crash it again tomorrow...
Top mount looks great, good skills mate
So after many late nights and lots of problems I finally fitted my coilovers, the last piece of this ridiculously hard puzzle!
The new set up
Set the height so there was just a tiny bit of preload on the springs. Rears sat fine, could do with a tiny bit more lows but the front...
Got enough rake? lol
Will raise the fronts a bit so I can get over speed bumps and go full lock without rubbing.
Went for a long test drive. About an hour of driving, mainly cruising and giving it the beams a few times. Started to sound really broken after a while there was a horrendous knock from the cam like the gear is rubbing off something. Turned it off, checked timing still lined up. All seemed good so I started it again and the noise was gone. Thought all was good so drove her back to work, sounded mint, ran mint, didn't stall on idle or anything. Happy days!
Finished work today and jumped in excited to drive home. Knocking again... had a look under the bonnet, nothing was obviously out of place. Decided to check coil packs and the one I replaced has gone again! WTF!!! I think it might be because it's the wrong pack so going to have to find a pre facelift pack and try it. Hopefully it sorts it out.
Will it ever end?
Lol it never ends when playing with cars!
Called up toyota, £120 for a coilpack :O had a wee heart attack! Got that on the car and it still sounded really bad. I was sure it was a timing problem and right enough there was a huge split all the way along the timing belt. Got a new belt and changed that on friday. Did some poking about to see if there was a reason why it was sounding like a diesel and I noticed a stone wedged in one of the teeth of an idler pulley! I am so lucky it didn't skip timing and blow up. After double checking and double double checking again to make sure I was timed up got the new belt on and fired up. Sounded very healthy got an awesome full days driving over the sunny saturday but unfortunately that was it. Was dropping my friend off and suddenly she jumped into limp mode. Luckily I was close to work so managed to get her back safely. Engine sounds as good as my mums brand new lexus so I'm putting it down to a sensor, how I'm going to find which sensor is failed I have no idea
Lol not having much luck so far mate, hope it's not putting you off and you solve it quickly
