parthiban Both the PCs I have connected by powerline have gigabit network cards but I only have the 200Mb adapters so it's irrelevant

toxo Ah right, most people would use it to connect a remote device to a switch or router, and most home user network kit like that isn't gig capable Didn't realise you were doing PC to PC directly.

Yh i find strange but will continue to test
Right did i test over the powerline adaptors i bought from ebay
there say it transfers at 200Mbps, i have 50meg broadband
My new laptop now has wireless N built in, the router is wireless N and the ps3 is connected to the powerline adaptor which is then connecting to the router
I transfered filed from my laptop to the PS3 wireless, total file size 949mb it took 8 minutes 30 seconds
which means its transferring at only 1.86Mbps, which frankly is not good
But cant expect more from it, unless i do direct ethernet connection
Beats wireless G anyday
You're confusing megabits and megabytes Saraj...
The powerline adaptors are max 200 megabits per second
The broadband / cable is max 50 megabits per second
A 10 megabits per second connection can transfer about 1.25 megabytes per second.
So your powerline connection is doing about 15 megabits per second (about ADSL2 speed). Not what's advertised, but not surprising (as I said earlier in the thread, powerline is a bodge of epic proportions). However your test is flawed - your need to be testing to something on the other end of the powerline, not something on the wireless network.
Yep you right I am getting confused with it all
The test I did is what I use it for and wanted an increase in transfer rate from what I had previously, which was the PS3 being on wireless G and awfully slow
Ill give the direct try one day and see what I get.
Bascially with my setup up it took 8 minutes 30 seconds to transfer i file of 949 megabytes if the PS3 was on wireless G im sure this would alot alot longer
