They are mate and are finished real good, I don't think they will take much fitting before painting

Is this engine a straight swap?

No, it's not too hard you need custom engine mounts then the wiring sorted.
Not that bad then really, I will keep looking as I want to do the body and suspension first

You'd be better off swapping in the internals of the GTE into your existing FE and then doing a custom turbo manifold. That way you keep the VVT-i, you can build the engine, leave the car running on standard ecu until you can afford to go stand alone and then turbo it. And you don't have to faff about with engine mount/mods etc.
1g-gte rods and pistons for sale in this thread on driftworks:

If I go that route would I need the crank?

From memory, no, they are the same. Stav will probably know for sure though. SamB went this route before putting a 1jz in his car.
Are the shells and rings easy to get as I wouldn't want to put them in with out putting new in

Depends on what generation the rods are of they are gen 1 then you'll need the crank if gen 2/3 then it's the same as the fe crank.
Rings aren't easy you have to adjust some others, shells are the same if fe crank
I've just messaged the bloke on drift works to see if there still available, I will ask him what gen there from
