The 8220 is a 2008/2009 model and the 7240 is a 2009/2010 model. The 8220 is higher featured (more inputs, higher volt outputs I expect) and the 7240 possibly has better iPod control... reds would be able to better fill you in but the spec sheets are available on Kenwoods website, all you need to do is open them up side by side and compare the numbers :thumbup1:

8220 will only play audio from an iPhone/iPod touch, 7240 has full iPhone support
8220 has 2 AV inputs (not counting reverse camera), 7240 has 1
8220 has 2 USB (1 is dedicated iPod from memory), 7240 has 1
8220 has 5V preouts, 7240 has 2V preouts
Basically there are 7xxx series and 8xxx series, the 8xxx series have the extra input, extra usb port and higher volt preouts. However the 7240 is newer so it has better iPod support and picture in picture support.
Both have built in sat nav and built in bluetooth, reverse camera support, loads of preouts, IR remote controls etc etc

Anyway, the 8220 is better. The only gotcha is that it doesn't support iPhones well because it's older. Not an issue if you don't have an iPhone or iPod touch, and don't plan to plug one into it.
But you're not nessecarily too old for sound quality so you might be interested in using an external amplifier, so you'd need the preouts...

pretty much spot on..
8220 does work with iphone/ipod for video (using KCA-iP300V lead)and audio (it will say its not supported when plugged in but works fine.. well mine does anyway!!)
7240 has newer garmin nav software
8220 has much better SQ with much more control over the audio settings
out of these two i would go for the 8220.. slightly older unit but much more for your money..

Either of those Kenwood units woud do you perfectly mate, the only deciding factor is cost and if you are planning on an iPhone/iPod ?
