I think it's worth a try. I don't think that anything really bad is likely to happen - well, no more likely than the existing chances of any re-map going badly wrong.

We might find that on the drive with the sim fitted that it just doesn't want to work. Or if we do the re-map but I find over time I don't like it, then we can always put the stock sensor back in and go back to the original map.

Dark Samurai Steve did that error code come up again (the one that popped up on the way to Japfest)?

Funny you should ask, because that had been happening every now and again, but not for a little while. I got it last night though. I typically get a P0171 and/or P0174, plus P0420. I used to get a lot of P0420s (pretty much every time I drove), but that occurring on its own like that was fixed by putting in an O2 simulator in place of the rear O2 sensor (the one behind the main cat).

I'm pretty sure these are related to the problem where the engine goes a bit rough, because they can come up when it's worst.

Seems to me that the fine-tuning that the stock ECU is doing via feedback from the stock O2 sensor just isn't working, so I think I should be better off without it. Only one way to find out !

Dean - as for the HIDs, they are very good once warmed up. They do take a little while to warm up though.

In preparation for my re-map tomorrow, I've just connected up the cam angle and crank angle input wires for my e-Manage Ultimate, into the appropriate stock ECU wires. As mentioned previously, up till now these wires weren't connected, so that was less info for my piggyback ECU to go on.

For those who haven't looked inside the ECU box, here's mine with the covers off. The bare wires are ones about to be connected up. All those translucent connectors are just some of the e-Manage wiring, so it looks more complicated there than on a stock engine.

I'm sure you're right, but blimey, that'll be a big job ! Big Grin

If it helps anyone else, even though this is in the manual for the e-Manage Ultimate anyway, here's the wiring diagram for connecting it up to the IS200 (1G-FE). For some cars you can buy a "plug and play" harness which makes it even easier, but as I said, the manual does include a diagram so you can wire it all manually, using the full harness (and the extended length harness is what you really need, to give you plenty of cable to play with if you want to house the unit inside the cabin).

Def agree, when i originally connected my old emanage up i used the same connectors that came with it,

Big mistake! had so many issues, as soon as i just spent an afternoon sat on a stool in my dads garage soldering and heatshrinking them all everything was a lot better

Hmm, thing is, I'm not getting lots of issues though. I only have one small issue, which is pretty easily repeatable, so I doubt it's anything to do with the connectors (or I'd expect more random problems). I'm sure you're right that it would be better to have soldered connections though, I'll add that to the list of things to do.

Off to get the O2 sim fitted later this morning, then re-map, fingers crossed !

Both Dean. It's going down the road to Fusion Motorsport (only about 15 mins away from me), to have the O2 sim fitted, and then doing a live mapping on the road to see if the sim is helping things.

It's then booked in for 3pm on the dyno at Surrey Rolling Road, which is just a stone's throw from Fusion, on the same estate.
