Popped into an O2 store over lunch to see whether they had it in yet and they did so had a play! They've only got the HTC HD7 (which is probably the one of the best) and it did not disappoint.

Hardware-wise it looks very similar to a Desire HD or the EVO4G in the US which is no bad thing as it looks great. Quite a bit heavier than my Galaxy S which was expected as the SGS is stupidly light, and the LCD screen is nowhere near as bright or vibrant as the S-AMOLED on the SGS (also expected).

It was only a brief play as there's only so much you can do with a demo handset with no SIM in it and not hooked up to any accounts, but first impressions are very good. The UI is very attractive, and feels great. Scrolling on screen is smooth and judder free, and there isn't really any lag when you ask it to do something.

One of my concerns was whether it would integrate well with Google as android does, and although I'm still not sure it looks promising as when you enter email or contacts it has an option to add a google account so I'm hoping that will mean a proper sync like with android.

The home page tiles are great, only thing that didn't feel quite right is that it looks a bit unfinished. The way the tiles sit to the left of the screen, and the little arrow on the right to open the menu don't look quite right (although that could just be me) - I think moving everything into the centre might have made enough of a difference.

Overall though I'd like to have one, when my upgrade comes around in a few months think I'll definitely consider it

I think MS have suprised pretty much everyone with how good WP7 is. I'm going to be switching from WP6.5 to Android for my next phone, but I'm sure WP7 will get even better in time. The real key will be the apps, and MS are trying to make it as easy as possible to do apps for WP7 (e.g. Silverlight).

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

I have to admit being surprised myself, it really is very slick and quite un-microsoft like. It's hard to tell from such a short play whether it can match the practicality of android, but from a lifestyle perspective it does make the iPhone look quite dated.

Actually made me smile when the sales guy said that the iPhone is a step down from the Galaxy S, and that the HD7 is a step above both - thought that was a little harsh but amusing nonetheless given the discussions on here and elsewhere on the net.

Yeah I think the S-AMOLED screen will do the UI a lot of favours, which network is getting the Omnia 7?

Nah O2 said they're only getting the HD7 - looks like it's T-Mobile and Orange that have the Omnia, Vodafone has a pretty rubbish selection which is annoying as far as my upgrade is concerned. Makes me think perhaps they're more focussed on Android?
