broadband + phone + maybe mobile phone
broadband + phone + maybe mobile phone
OK so we are about to move house and we need to get our phone line and broadband sorted out , also I have no contract left on my mobile phone.
So I was wondering what is my best option to go for .
I used to have my home broadband through Orange but now maybe thinking of BT . But dont know what to go for .
Just trying to get the best deal , might even think about broadband with sky .
So what dose everyone else use ??
we need to get a BT engineer out to the new house and that costs £130 , but if you take broadband with them for 18 months you get the engineer out for free.
So this is something else that needs to be take into account when deciding what to go for .
Any ideas ?????
There are many many options. But you will usually get the best price by combining them all from one provider. See what Sky and Virgin have to offer. Virgin do good deals for the big 4 - phone, mobile, broadband and TV.
If it's quite rural not sure if you'll be in a cabled area, but if you are then worth considering Virgin as I'm not sure how far you'll be from an exchange and therefore what sort of speeds you'll get over ADSL.
Virgin do deals for everything including mobile so can work out cheaper for the lot, best to ring around and see who'll give you the best deal (obviously telling one that you're thinking of going with the other!)
I dont know why we need a BT engineer out , but they told us we do when we told them we were moving . And we dont get cable so that option is a no no

Gord Can you get virginmedia in your area ?
I think even if you was to go with Sky you need BT line, you need to get BT out to install a line coz there is not one ?

parthiban Has the house been empty for a while or did the previous owners not have a phone line? Haven't been on BT for a long time but I didn't think you needed an engineer out to just reconnect a pre-existing line?

Sky's the best allrounder, as much as I dislike recommending Murdoch. Their internet service is average-to-good, their tv service is good and phonelines are phonelines, you can't really get that wrong.
Don't do anything daft like using Talk Talk to try and save a few pennies - their service really is bad.
You can't be sure about the BT charge until the engineer turns up at your house unfortunately. If it's just been disconnected at the exchange then you won't get charged, but if he has to come out then you will. They don't let you know which it'll be in advance.
Hope that helps!
Edit: Oh just one more thing - make sure that the deal you're being offered is actually cheaper than you can get the things separately. I know that sounds like common sense but you can spend so much time comparing these bundle deals that you end up thinking a bundle is automatically going to be cheaper and that's not always the case. For example, while I have a phoneline at home, I don't have a phone - I only use the line for broadband. There are providers who offer broadband-only line rental, and those tend to be *very* cheap.
Orange Broadband and Calls packages are £7.50 and £10 for Off Peak or Anytime calls respectively (those call packages include 0870 and 0845 and off peak is 6pm onwards) and the line rental on both is £11.50 a month (compared to bt's £13.90?)
you do have to have an orange mobile phone to get those prices, (otherwise its £5 a month more) and the off peak one you get first 3 months BB and Calls, so its just line rental for 3 months
they can take over your BT line, or if you don't have one, they can install one for less than half what BT charge
....also Orange offer 25% discount on 24 month mobile phone contracts for employees of its corporate companies, and you don't have to be the employee, just take someone with you with their latest wageslip, the contract doesn't have to go in their name because as the employee, they can give discount to 5 friends and family
there is a huge list of about 150 companies who qualify for the discount, a few of the big ones are mentioned below (but may be subject to change)
Asda, Lidl, ALL Emergency Services, Teaching Staff, Local Government employees, Council staff, Barclays bank staff, police staff (ie not just officers) NHS employees, G4S
