Have Lexus finaly told us about the replacement for the SC430?

Lexus Dubbed the LC600h, the new model has been planned as a successor to the discontinued SC, and will be based on the platform presently being developed for the next-gen LS due for a 2014 launch. It will come loaded with a V8 gasoline engine and a hybrid transmission, with two electric motors and an epicyclic gearbox. The combined power output has been estimated at more than 500 hp with a 0-100 km/h acceleration taking a little shy of 5 seconds.

Keeping in mind environmental friendliness, the LC600h should sputter out CO2 at a rate of less than 200 g/km while maintaining a fuel economy of 35 mpg. The model, which will also be released in a retractable metal roof version, is planned as a direct competitor of the Mercedes SL and should be within our reach by 2015.

Sounds interesting, but I wish they'd make a proper sports car like a toned down LFA rather than what will effectively be a cruiser given that it's a hybrid.

Bring on the MR2 replacement. Early reports are interesting: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoex...eturn.html

Absolutely, there's definitely a market for the softer hybrid version (especially in the US) but it would be nice if there was a harder 'F' version.......

Oh wow, that MR2 is even worse - an MR2 with the prius drivetrain is a sad thought..........has Toyota completely given up with normal cars then?

Yea because "hybrids" are all boring, I love beating all sorts of cars off the line in a boring slow Prius.

Anyway one report on the potential MR2 hybrid said:

"Between them, the two engines are said to produce 'more than 400hp' and a kerb weight of between 1400kg and 1500kg means that 0-60mph is supposedly achievable in 4.5secs"

So a tad better 0-60 than any previous MR2.

Yes, our Prius, due to it's electric motor, is surprising how it beats some cars off the line...

Yeah you're right, I have to agree the Prius is quick off the line, but in its current guise it just can't work as a nimble agile sports car (something Prius is about as far removed from as possible) - I'll reserve judgement till the real thing comes along but it will require some pretty trick engineering to make this work properly.

Quick in a straight line is one thing, being fun to drive is altogether different.
