try downloading some trial recovery software which only allow you to recover some files or checks whether it is recoverable, once you found the software which can do it, let me know,and I should be able to get a full version for you at a "very very very, next to nothing" price......

[COLOR="Gray"]December 2008: Crashed Lexus IS200 - Cat B Write Off
August 2009: Crashed Vauxhall Astra - Minor Damage DIY Repair
November 2009: Crashed Vauxhall Astra - Scratches To Bumper No Repair Required
February 2010: Other Party Crashed Into Astra - Extensive Damage To Rear -Settled With Third Party's Insurance

Have you installed that software I sent you Moley? I'm just installing it myself so I can throw some instructions together for you. I haven't used it in a good few years and I can't remember what it looks like...

Right, once installed run EasyRecovery Professional from the start menu (if you run Vista or Win 7 you will need to right-click the icon and click Run as Administrator).

Inside the program click Data Recovery and then Advanced Recovery. It should let you choose a disk to recover and then it should let you choose a drive. You can click scan (I think) and it will try and list all the files and folders it can recover from the drive?

I agree it does sound like you have a corrupt file allocation table on your drive. There is a clever hidden bit of the hard drive that lists all the filenames and physically where the data for those files is contained on the drive hardware, which sounds like it's knackered. Perhaps we can tailor Patricks chkdsk instructions. If you do as he suggested, but rather than just running

Code:

chkdsk x:

where x: is the letter of your removable hard drive, try running:

Code:

chkdsk x: /x /r

I should say though - there is always a chance that your data is all already gone, in which case none of this cleverness will help you.
