The key is to remember to remove the filler plug first before you drain the oil out. And as per quite a few cars, the refill process is to fill it up until it overflows - gearbox oil is nasty stuff so make sure you catch / clean up any overspill. And obviously the car has to be level when you fill it!

Just for info, i've used this method before for filling the gearbox. The last time was recently when i replaced my clutch, I changed the oil when the gearbox was on the bench - so much easier.

I put a drip tray under the gearbox (very important). I undid the fill plug and ran a length of tube from the gearbox up into the engine bay next to the exhaust manifold. Wedged a funnel into the end of the tube then filled to spill.

Yeah, it makes a bit of a mess but it's easier than having the car on axle stands and messing about under the gearbox with odd shaped bottles and inflexible spouts.

Of course if i had a pump i'd use that instead :tongue_smilie:.

True, the last lot of oil I got had integral tubes, but the one before that didn't for some reason. But like i said, I did the last oil change while the transmission was off and sitting on the bench.
That is truely the easiest way of doing an oil change......if you don't mind the hassle of taking the transmission off

you wont get the tube anywhere near the fill port.

either do as suggested with a length of tube - still a total PITA or get a fluid pump and an extra bottle of oil.

same goes for the rear diff... get about 1.5m of 12mm ID tube and a funnel.

drain the fluid, feed the tube in from the wheel arch and into the diff and then fill.

trust me its less hassle.
