Next day was the big road test. I took the car out on the motorway, with Ed in the passenger seat and mapping the Syvecs as we went. I don't know if it was just a placebo effect or a real improvement but the car felt awesome ! It felt more responsive than before, in terms of the turbo spooling up quickly, and the sound was amazing ! It seemed to have more of a roar when under full throttle (keeping to all appropriate speed limits of course *ahem*). The idea was to do some basic mapping of the car on the road before it went on the dyno, so then the dyno mapping could just build on that and fill in the missing bits that were more difficult to replicate on the road.

One of the Syvecs features that Ed setup was its ability to tell which gear the car was in (this being a manual transmission). It does this by comparing the revs with the road speed. Once you calibrate it once for each gear, it works out each gear ratio and then in future it will be able to easily tell which gear I am in. What's the point ? Well, apart from just being a cool toy, one way that you could use it is to have different boost levels for each gear, e.g. less boost in first gear if it proves too much, for example ? We didn't bother to apply that to my maps though.

Ed did offer to me that I could take the car back for the weekend and drive it arouns myself. Which was very tempting, but I declined on the basis of it not currently having a working immobiliser. I left the Toad alarm/immobiliser with Ed for fitting. Also there was currently no aircon - for that, Ed was looking into a quick solution for now, with the possibility of a fuller solution later.

Knock control was configured yet, that was something else to be done.

There were now a lot less dash warning lights, just TRC OFF and a flashing low fuel light (which means an error rather than low fuel). The rev counter and speedo were working fine. Max boost had been set to 1.0 bar, similar to what it had been previously.

What you've described is how a lot of stock boost controllers work. Ie less boost in 1st and 2nd!

I will take a pic of where the knock sensor is installed. Don't worry, I have a *ton* of updates I still have to post up yet, just been a bit tied up so sorry for not putting more on in the past couple of days.

The installation of the Toad alarm went smoothly. Ed did try disconnecting the stock alarm, but that apparently caused all sorts of problems, so he just left it. The new system has its own keyfob, and it works pretty much the same as the stock system - i.e. one button to lock/arm/etc, one to unlock, and a third one configured to operate the boot release. You'll understand if I don't post a picture of where the unit has been installed, for security reasons !

I still have yet to decide (even now) where to permanently mount the LED for the system. Right now it's temporarily with my add-on gauges above the centre console.

Whatcha gonna do with the 4th button? Big Grin Or the user configurable output where you hold 3+4 down together?

I had one of mine on flashing the headlights and the other to activate the total closure separately from the alarm. Flashing the headlights was great fun as they'd pop up - it was fun for confusing people at car shows, you could sit away from the car and they'd jump 2ft in the air when the lights popped up Smile Was tempting to wire it up to an extra set of washer jets somewhere...

Here's a couple of pics of the knock sensor. It's installed through the intake plenum, just underneath the fuel rail (secured by the shiny bolt in the pic) :
