Dynoooooooooo ! ...

The car went on the dyno, and the graphs are below. This was at Surrey Rolling Road, which is where I have had the car dyno'd twice before, once as stock (where it did 153bhp at the fly and 120 at the wheels), and once with the initial turbo/e-Manage setup (where it did 257 fly, 211 wheels).

On the first graph (click on the graphs for a closer look), you can see the bhp at the fly (dotted line), and the torque curve (solid line). Of course, as usual for a dyno, what is measured is the bhp at the wheels, and the fly figure is an estimate based on measured drivetrain losses. If you ask around though, I believe you'll find that SRR's dyno is pretty accurate.

On the second graph, the previous e-Manage dyno results are added. This time the bhp is a solid line and torque is dotted. The Syvecs lines are in blue, and the e-Manage in green. Apologies to anyone who is colourblind, but the Syvecs curves are basically the "better" ones !

Bear in mind that the main aim of the Syvecs install was not to improve power, but driveability. Having said that, it was a nice bonus to get some more power. More importantly, the torque peak is now both higher and lower down the rev range (now approx 274 ft/lb at 4600rpm as opposed to the previous 241 ft/lb at 5100rpm).

From the shape of the power curve it actually looks like something is maxing out around 5600 rpm (i.e. it goes flat). We didn't spend any time investigating exactly what this is, e.g. if it's something that can be tweaked slightly, or something more mechanical that's in the way.

The power and torque for the Syvecs setup can be seen on their own in the next graph (just without the previous setup drawn on there) :

In the third graph, below, you can see I am now getting 234bhp at the wheels. So that's almost double my stock setup. You can see the fuelling (AFR) and boost on this graph. Maximum boost is reached by around 4250rpm, which is pretty nice :

The final graph adds the fuelling and boost curves from the previous e-Manage setup (in green). The boost levels are very similar, but the fuelling is a lot better now :

Overall, I was very pleased with the results.

Still at this stage, the knock detection didn't seem to be working, and needed further investigation (e.g. was the knock sensor sited in the wrong place ?).

Ed tried operating the ACIS flap manually, but it didn't seem to make much difference, so he just left it (not actually sure in which position this is, I guess in whichever default position, I presume open ?).

The Syvecs was now in charge of the rev limiter, being set at 6500rpm.

Another small issue was a slight misfire, but this only happened at startup. Again, investigation needed.

I guess about 3500/3750 is VVTi activation? ACIS would only make a difference low down.

VVT-i is a continuous effect, but maybe it has more effect at that point ? No idea actually. The ACIS flap closes at higher revs in the stock setup.

The car hasn't been back on the dyno again since then, although there have been small tweaks to the maps.

The first power graph comparing. The emanage looks smoother I think as well. Just one continuous curve from about half way.

Things done :- SPC turbo kit (custom), Blueflame cat back with custom tip, B&M shortshift, grooved discs all round, Mintex pads all round, OEM wheels in white,Denso ik22s, Calipers painted black,04 spec rear lights, Tein basic coilovers, Helix organic clutch, Fan washer jets, late spec headlights (dark), Carbon bonnet, Hotchkis anti roll bars, Front arm rest, Top box from late spec.

Not sure, I don't think it necessarily has to be, but I will check with Ed if he did use the mounting for one of the stock knock sensors.

Not sure, I don't think it necessarily has to be, but I will check with Ed if he did use the mounting for one of the stock knock sensors.
